We are building a coalition of brands that want to create a more sustainable and successful future for retail that champions the hope, health and happiness of colleagues. Whether it’s a team challenge, donating your carrier bag levy, raising funds in the workplace, supporting our events or working with us to develop business tools, together, we can do so much. We receive a call every 45 minutes, which means we’re answering the phone to colleagues who need us approximately 11295 times a year. Now, more than ever, our charity and corporate partnerships play a vital role in our work to provide mental health and wellbeing support, which can be life-saving. £40 helps us process one financial aid application £480 enables us to deliver six sessions of counselling to a colleague in need Take a look at all the ways you can get involved here: go.retailtrust.org.uk/partnerships (#linkinbio) #partnerships #retail #retailtrust #hope #health #happiness #wellbeing #workplacewellbeing #retailindustry #corporatepartnerships #charitypartnerships #worldwellbeingweek

It's been an eventful week so you might be in need of some fresh air to reset for the weekend. We've got the perfect accompaniment for you, listen to this month's Retail Therapy, on the wonder of walking. On this episode we talk about walking with Annabel Streets, award-winning author of both fiction and non-fiction books, including 52 Ways To Walk, and founder of The Age Well Project. In our conversation, Annabel talks about how she rediscovered walking after suffering debilitating backpain, reveals simple steps to improve your gait, and shares ideas to help you get out of a walking rut. Plus, we cover the benefits of walking in wind and rain, by water or under trees and whether slow or short walks are still worth doing (spoiler alert, yes they are!) And so much more. We are delighted to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the first time in the Charity Times Awards for charity of the year! We join a short list with five other charities, all with an income of more than £10m, who represent excellence in the charity sector. We support nearly 600,000 retail employees across 200 clients as well as looking after 436 residents on our estates. Last month alone we answered 696 helpline calls and ran 44 training courses and we couldn’t be on this list without all of the dedication from our colleagues, supporters and the brilliant retailers that we work with. A huge thank you to all of you. Take a look at the full list of nominees her: go.retailtrust.org.uk/awards-shortli… #retail #retailnews #charity #charitynews #charitytimesawards #hope #health #happiness

“Thousands of shop workers are contacting us to say they now fear for their safety" Today, we have launched our respect retail campaign to tackle the increasing abuse faced by our retail colleagues daily. Here’s why it’s time to join our campaign and report abusive incidents so colleagues can get the support they need. “Every day we’re hearing from people who have been shouted at, spat on, threatened or hit at work, sometimes several times a week. As a country and a society, we must get better at ending this terrible behaviour, making sure every incident is recorded and acted upon, and above all, ensuring that our colleagues across the country get the protection and support they need. Our message at the Retail Trust is clear. Abuse is never part of anyone’s job, and if you’re a retail worker encountering abuse, threats or violence, please do report this to your manager and call the Retail Trust’s wellbeing helpline on 0808 801 0808 if you need any support dealing with your experiences.” - Chris Brook Carter Join our campaign to #RespectRetail and stop the intolerance epidemic: bit.ly/retail-trust-r… #intoleranceepidemic #harassment #workplaceharassment #righttobesafe #retail #retailtrust #hope #health #happiness #worldkindnessday #retailindustry @CBC90 *Credit: BBC Breakfast

The rise in crime threatens shopworkers, shops & communities - 👇 from @GMB @coopuk spend 4 times sector average per store on security but @PoliceChiefs need to act because right now they don't attend in 71% of serious crimes we report @ACS_LocalShops @the_brc @UsdawUnion
Good Morning Britain@GMB

There were almost 1000 cases a day of shoplifting and antisocial behaviour in Co-op stores during the first 6 months of this year. The company says the level of out-of-control crime is unsustainable and is calling on the police to target prolific offenders. @LizSummers reports

Half of managers have noticed an increase in absence due to mental health issues in the last 12 months. 83% of managers would like more training to help them support people’s wellbeing. The welcome culture shift to more openness around mental health has led to a critical need for more management training to ensure these key team leaders know how to support themselves and their teams, signpost and set boundaries. So sad to hear of the passing of Jacqueline Gold CBE, pioneer, friend and beacon for retail industry. Jacqueline was an inspiration – her warmth, passion for a more inclusive world and courage confronting inequality in the workplace influenced so many people for the better.
