Africa’s 500 largest companies 2026, @TheAfricaReport The 15 largest highlight: By country 8 South Africa 2 Morocco 1 Ethiopia, Nigeria, Angola, Libya, Algeria By sector 6 Energy & utilities 3 Telecom 2 Retail 1 Transport (Ethiopian Airlines), Agro, chemical, mining Overall, from the 500 largest, East Africa’s two largest economies have 17 companies ranked. Note: the ranking excludes banks, insurance and other financial services companies. Kenya 12 Ethiopia 5 In the case of Ethiopia, there are many large private companies that could have been ranked in 2026 but the vast majority are family owned and therefore, by law, not required to publicly disclose their financials, similar to many other countries, including the U.S., that do not require public disclosure by private companies. However, I expect more private Ethiopian companies and even a few state owned enterprises to be ranked in the coming years as they list on ESX, Ethiopia’s new stock exchange. Our investment bank, CBECapitalSC.com, is currently preparing many Ethiopian companies for IPOs to list on ESX and possibly cross-list, in the future, on other East African exchanges such as NSE (Nairobi).
