Why are Quebec police calling gun owners' spouses? The Sûreté du Québec has launched an initiative that sees officers contacting the spouses of licensed firearms owners to ask about possible domestic violence concerns. What if the police called your spouse tomorrow and asked whether you might become violent someday? Not because you'd committed a crime. Not because anyone had filed a complaint. Not because there was evidence against you. Just because you legally owned something that the government doesn't like. That's exactly what's happening in Quebec. This week, the Carney Liberals quietly extended their gun ban amnesty once again, delaying implementation of the federal confiscation scheme until 90 days after the Supreme Court of Canada hears the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights challenge to the 2020 gun ban. By the time this whole mess winds through the court, it will be seven and a half years after hundreds of thousands of previously legal firearms were prohibited by Order-in-Council. Thankfully, the government still hasn't managed to complete its confiscation program, and Canadians are still waiting to learn whether the ban itself was lawful. At the same time, Quebec police are targeting licensed gun owners in a different way. The Sûreté du Québec has launched an initiative that sees officers contacting the spouses of licensed firearms owners to ask about possible domestic violence concerns. The problem? Canada already has extensive laws allowing authorities to intervene when there are genuine safety concerns. Police can seize firearms, licences can be suspended or revoked, courts can issue protection orders, and red-flag laws already allow firearms to be removed before violence occurs. So why are police investigating people who haven't been accused of any wrongdoing? @SheilaGunnReid

Last week, Canada suffered a tragic loss when Constable Marc Pinizzotto was shot and killed in the line of duty. Horrifically, the man responsible was already out on probation, was already known to police, and already prohibited from possessing firearms was back on the streets. This should never have happened.

A written return tabled in the House of Commons (Q-1113) shows 65,070 firearms were declared by licenced owners, but only when you look at the breakdown does the picture get interesting. Of those declared, 62.4% were previously non-restricted firearms, guns that didn't require registration since 2012. Only 34.5% were previously restricted (best estimate, because some models that had NR and R versions are mixed in the government numbers), meaning they were already registered and ownership was known. Here's where it gets significant: the government's own estimate put the total number of formerly restricted firearms that were prohibited by OiC in Canada at approximately 110,000. That number varies depending on the source, but that's the number we'll use as the official one, but it could be as high as 135,000 or more. Based on the Q-1113 data, only 20.4% of those registered firearms were ever declared to the compensation program before the March 31st, 2026 deadline. That means roughly 4 in 5 formerly restricted firearms, which are guns the government knows about, were not declared. A few things worth noting: Q-1113 doesn't show any model where fewer than 10 were declared, so 3,647 additional declarations aren't visible in this data. The government's confirmed total is 68,717 individual declarations (by 37,869 owners as of March 31, 2026), but Q-1113 only shows 65,070 firearms declared, leaving 3647 unknown. Ten firearm models had both non-restricted and restricted variants of some models (example: the Beretta CX4 Storm) lumped in together in Q-1113 and aren't included in the percentages, so the percentage of restricted firearms declared is likely even less.

In 2023, Liberals outlawed sales, transfers, and imports of lawful handguns, promising "safer communities" and "less gun crime." It did neither. It did have an effect though. Now, more than 6,000 internationally competing 🇨🇦 sport shooters say their sport’s days, are numbered.

This is not about guns... It never was. The question before the Supreme Court of Canada is whether the government can step into your life — despite you doing nothing wrong — and take your legally acquired property by force. That question affects every single Canadian. Not just the 2.5 million legal gun owners who have been fighting this for six years. @CCFR_CCDAF VP of Public Relations @TWilsonOttawa breaks down exactly what the Supreme Court challenge means, what comes next and why this case will set a precedent that goes far beyond firearms. Lawyer @IanRunkle on what's behind the feds 4th firearm Amnesty period, and the possible outcomes should you choose to "roll the dice." 🎲 Either way, he says, Liberals are attempting to "rip off" law-abiding Canadians while they await the Supreme Court's decision. 🇨🇦 🔫

Making the amnesty permanent isn’t good enough. We bought these guns in good faith and we’ve used them safely and without issue for decades. A permanent amnesty means they’ll spend eternity in my gun room. We’ll beat it in court instead 🇨🇦
Pierre Poilievre@PierrePoilievre

Liberals are wasting $750 million on another failed boondoggle that targets law-abiding hunters, farmers, and sport shooters, instead of going after the real gun smugglers and gangsters. Make the amnesty permanent by ending the wasteful gun grab now. Sign to send that money to secure our border and fight the real problem: conservative.ca/cpc/stopthegun…

I wouldn't let my first-year undergraduate students draw on data this bad to try to make an argument. More context is definitely needed for headlines like this. ctvnews.ca/canada/article…

🚨NWT Minister Alty REFUSES to stand up for law-abiding firearm owners in NWT   “Hunting rifles aren’t being confiscated.”   “Return any licences that are currently deemed prohibited.”   Can someone explain what exactly she's talking about? 🤔   Meanwhile, the Crime Severity Index in the NWT is the highest in Canada, RCMP in NWT are short-staffed by 23% and Mark Carney is still blowing $203 million, this year alone, confiscating firearms from hunters and sport shooters.   Watch until the end. 👇

Even the Public Safety Minister has admitted the Liberals' $1 BILLION gun grab doesn't work. Now that the Liberal government has been forced to extend the program's amnesty, will the Prime Minister finally END his failed boondoggle?
