Fuel-only new car market continues to decline; hybrids gain popularity 🇪🇺 Sales of new cars with only gasoline engines dropped sharply in the European Union last month, falling by more than 23%, with all major markets showing clear declines. Diesel car sales also continued to shrink, decreasing by nearly 18% in February, according to the European auto industry association ACEA. France saw the steepest drop in gasoline-only car sales, plunging by 48.5%. Germany followed with a 22.8% decline, along with Spain (down 20.8%) and Italy (down 18.6%). Meanwhile, hybrids remained the most popular choice. Nearly 644,000 hybrid vehicles were sold, giving them a market share of almost 39%. Overall, total car sales in the EU fell slightly by 1.2% last month. Fully electric vehicle (EV) sales, however, increased significantly, rising by more than 20% to 158,200 units in February.
