H.E Wamkele Mene, participated in a High-Level panel under the theme “Africa & the AI Opportunity” at the Global AI Summit on Africa in Kigali, Rwanda.
The panel delved into the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for Africa’s socio-economic development.
During his intervention, HE Mene emphasised the importance of leveraging the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade to deploy digital technologies including AI for the advancement of Africa’s economic development. The Annex on Emerging Technologies promotes the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI in digital trade, in a responsible and ethical manner.
He highlighted that using AI for seamless digital payments, market intelligence and enhanced data transfers is critical towards enabling digital inclusion, enhancing trade and ultimately driving growth.
He further emphasised the need to mobilise investment in digital public infrastructure and accelerate the implementation of regulatory harmonisation to drive Africa’s development and creating a single digital market.
