@CDefenestrator @Garmfield I mean, to me, it seems like you definitely CAN learn execution, no? Like you do have consistent execution in your main game right?

starting to think "you don't need talent" is the "just work hard and you'll be able to buy a house, I did!" of the fgc. if you got lucky and then work hard it's a great way to not have to think about how lucky you got - so many ppl like @CDefenestrator don't admit to lucky rolls.

@ant_ssb @Garmfield im prob like top 4 on my character worldwide but its a much smaller playerbase. I can get decent but it takes too long with my baseline execution

@CDefenestrator @Garmfield I mean I don’t know how good you are at this game, but in my main game (smash ult) I for sure have like 5000 hours at very minimum, and I’m still only scratching top 1000 worldwide. I also don’t consider myself bad at games at all, I pick up new games very quickly

@ant_ssb @Garmfield Id prob define 3 major areas when learning a new game: execution, knowledge, decision making I can learn game knowledge to a decent extent without being gated by execution but it's sort of impossible to progress on decision making if you are execution gated

@CDefenestrator @Garmfield In the OP I mention “practicing with intention”, do you think this is something you do? Forgive me if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem like you have a very well defined personal cycle of improvement

@ant_ssb @Garmfield i may be misinterpreting yeah. I just think there are people who are genuinely ass (however im gatekeeping the genuine assness status, you must play 5k hours etc)

@ant_ssb @Garmfield my execution is very bad, im still dropping bnbs at the 600 hr mark in another game i play for example, where its basically fatal to be doing so. across the 7k ish hours total this hasnt changed much so its the big time gate for me. im consistent in uni due to the hours

@CDefenestrator @Garmfield How would you describe your learning process, if you’re able to generalize it? Do you have a personal cycle of some kind you try to follow to iteratively improve?

@ant_ssb @Garmfield a lot of it is just how the current game functions rewarding things that are not fun for me. But also the thought of winning was overtaking just having fun with the game so I think it's just better to have fun with it than mentally boom myself

@CDefenestrator @Garmfield I’m curious, what do you think you were doing wrong when you were trying to compete? What stopped you from improving?

@ant_ssb @Garmfield tldr is, i can get pretty good, it just takes too long and the time investment is not realistic for multiple games. This i think is being "bad" at games at baseline.

@ant_ssb @Garmfield my experience has been that I improve very slowly no matter what game i pick up, which is the crux of where I take issue with the OP. i'm good at UNI but that's purely due to amount of time spent. I'd have to spend the time to get to a similar level, which just isnt feasible
