On March 17, Catholics celebrate St. Patrick, the fifth century bishop and patron of Ireland. St. Patrick is most revered not only for driving away the snakes from Ireland, but for what he brought, and the foundation he built for the generations of Christians who followed him.

3 March is the day the UN announced as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. This year World Wildlife Day (WWD) will be celebrated under the theme “Safeguarding key species for ecosystem restoration”wildlifeday.org

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent and 40 days until Easter Sunday. The day is symbolised by the receiving of ashes. The ashes are obtained by burning the palms used on the previous Palm Sunday and are applied in the shape of a cross on the forehead of each worshipper.

Shrove Tuesday occurs the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday when Christians are encouraged to go to confession in preparation for the penitential season that would end 40 days and 40 nights later with Easter Sunday.

We call on the Australian government and Australian people to #StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦 This may rapidly become Europe’s biggest refugee crisis since WWII if we don't act fast enough. We're looking at between 3-5 million refugees fleeing air raids and violence in freezing conditions.

In the last week, we have witnessed the many people, mostly women and children, suddenly become refugees due to the attack on Ukraine. It draws each of us to reflect on our gratitude for freedom as well as those things that we otherwise take for granted.

I renew my invitation for everyone to take part on 2 March, Ash Wednesday, in a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in #Ukraine, in order to be near to the suffering Ukrainian people, to be aware that we are all brothers and sisters, and to implore God for an end to the war.
