The Balen government and Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal have repeatedly assured that Nepal will not change its China Policy and will instead continue a balanced relationship with its neighbors. However, China has viewed the new government with calibrated caution and wariness. A telling example is its growing anxiety at the Nepal-China border, especially since the Sept Gen-Z uprising. CESIF-Nepal reports that in recent months, China has tightened its (Tatopani) border (point) with Nepal; Not only can Nepali security officials no longer cross over to the Tibetan side like before, but China has also heightened security checks for the locals at the border. What further fueled speculation about China's recent apprehension (at this border with notable Tibetan Buddhist adherents and Dalai Lama followers) is Sudan Gurung's curious interest and visit to this border point, even before he was appointed Home Minister. cesifnepal.org/090426-tatopan…
