I’m going to a fancy wedding in June and need to find a formal dress that I can nurse in. Wish me luck 😬

@HannahWardEdu Traditional, on-site grad school was so much more satisfying. I understand why speed-running is a good choice for today's student. But I wish things weren't so.

@HannahWardEdu I did something similar in 2012 and was so disappointed. It felt like getting credit for all the stuff I'd done in high school, plus cramming for a CLEP test, taking/passing it, and promptly forgetting it all because I finished in a week or two and never picked it up again.

Wild thing about these degrees: you have to show actual competence. You can't just languish through them and cheat with AI like traditional higher education right now. Only real useful degrees are offered. No fluff permitted in the system. The proctoring is ridiculously tight. The students have to really know their stuff. Project based assignments are insanely rigorous. Industry-based certs are built into the degrees. The curriculum changes constantly because the world is changing constantly. This is the future and everything else in higher Ed is a joke. Anyone who doesn't like it is just sad they wasted their time and missed out on traditional ed or missed the boat or had to drown in student loans. I have 1000x more respect for a competency-based speed runner than an Ivy League graduate at this point. No question.

College students are now “speed-running” through higher ed: “It takes most college students at least four years to earn a bachelor’s degree. Christie Williams finished in three months.”

@ronnieschaniel @marcportermagee Yes. I'm not disagreeing with you. I mourn the loss of what the degree should be and has been. But pragmatically, if most of that has been lost, it makes sense to zoom through it to get what you can. (Though I suspect there are still connections and social benefits to be had.)

True. With all sorts of degrees appearing for any segment to maximise profits and offering everyone a chance to study. But having to spend only three months of your life is further devaluation. And all this in the age of AI where one should dive deeper and not only scratch the surface.

@ronnieschaniel @marcportermagee This is a symptom, not the problem. Degrees have *already* been devalued so much that most are only a ticket to the white collar job market. Might as well get your ticket as cheaply as possible, if that's all it is.

@marcportermagee There are three things that matter during university. Forming your thinking, gaining the signal and building connections. Not all of that can be down in 3 months. Which consequently reduces the value of such high speed degrees.

I’ve always liked reading about monsters. Can’t really explain it. Bestiaries, cryptozoology, fantasy novels, etc. I don’t really care about the plot of a movie but the monster has to be interesting. Folk horror usually does this best. I really do just love a good cryptid.

dystopian novel idea: it’s 2045. pens and other writing utensils have been banned. all forms of communication must happen via electronic devices so they can be monitored. forget cursive. children aren’t even taught to write by hand anymore. the protagonist runs a clandestine pen manufacturing facility and smuggles pens out of his basement. the written word is the only way to form a resistance and overthrow the tyranny of the state. sounded more interesting in my head.

@HRH_SHP It's completely optional. Appreciated but not required. I never expected it when packaging these orders as a host in fine dining.

Last night I ordered takeout, drove to the restaurant and picked it up. I signed the receipt and didn’t tip on the tip line. I feel guilty and judged every time I do this. No tips on takeout, right?

@iWomansplainer Dwarf-sized trees are best, if you have a choice. More productive for their size, much easier to prune and thin, and much easier to harvest from. Have fun, and make sure there's another apple tree blooming at the same time Honeycrisp does for cross-pollination.

Nobody has ever given a full-throated sales pitch for a tin of sardines. That is a market gap. Allow me. The tin is food-grade steel, lined, sealed, oxygen removed. The environment inside is more controlled than most restaurant kitchens you have eaten in happily and without incident. No preservatives. Canning is heat and the absence of oxygen. Just the fish, suspended exactly as they were the day the boat came in. The omega-3s survive it. Studies comparing fresh to tinned show no meaningful difference in EPA and DHA. The fish was caught, canned within hours, and the fatty acids went nowhere. The bones are edible. They have been sitting in olive oil long enough to become soft, and they are the calcium delivery mechanism the sardine built for itself. You eat them. That is the intended use. What the tin actually contains: EPA and DHA in immediately usable form. Selenium, iodine, B12, CoQ10, vitamin D, calcium, complete protein with every essential amino acid. Your protein shake has twenty-three ingredients. The sardine grew its own nutrition in the North Atlantic and asked for nothing. A food humans have eaten since before written history now apparently requires a defence. Buy the tin.

Har vært uten #melk i snau uke. Alltid glemt å kjøpe. Men i går huska jeg 😎 Så da ble det melk i kaffen i dag. #Pulverkaffe er best med melk. 70/30 på ordentlig kaffe. Best å drikke svart 7/10 ganger, godt med melk 3/10 ganger. Hvordan liker de kaffen deres?

@kaeruZangyo This is a pie plate I made for my grandparents. (The potter who taught me is the one who glazed it.) From what I've been told, Grandma didn't know how to cook when she first married Grandpa. The first dish she mastered was apple pie--and Grandpa learned along with her.

そもそも何で俺らがトランスジェンダーに寄り添わなきゃいけないの? 皆社会と上手く繋がれない所はあるけど黙って踏ん張りながら生きてんのに、何であいつらはでかい顔しながら社会に迷惑かけていられるの?

@tene0s @yamanakanobody Women make inferior "men," so they're not a threat in any way. They just seem pathetic. Men make hideous "women," but they crush real women at virtually all sports and are known for being creepy in female spaces. Fake women are a threat to real women. It's very asymmetrical.
