CHP offices are closed today, March 31, 2026, for Farmworkers Day. While state offices may be closed, our officers and dispatchers remain on duty statewide, providing patrol, emergency response, and essential public safety services.

**TRAFFIC ALERT** Northbound Interstate 5 to Grapevine Road is closed due to a vehicle fire. The #4 lane is closed at this time. Use caution through the area. ETO is approximately 6 hours while crews clean up.

The two far right lanes of northbound I-5, south of Grapevine Road will be closed for an unknown duration due to a commercial vehicle fire. Emergency personnel and cleanup crews are on scene. Traffic is extremely heavy through the area, so please slow down and drive with caution

Northbound I-5, south of Grapevine Road is closed due to a commercial vehicle fire. Kern County Fire Department and emergency personnel are on scene. Please use caution through the area as traffic is backed up.

Solo vehicle overturned and crashed in the center median of northbound I-5, near the west escape ramp, souht of GrapevineRoad. The far left lane will be closed for an unknown duration for investigation and vehicle recovery. Please use caution when passing through the area.

I-5 southbound, south of Vista Del Lago is completly closed due to an overturned semi tractor and trailer. All southbound traffic is being diverted to SR-138. Use alrernate routes if you need to travel south. This closure will be in place for an undetermined time.

Strong winds, wet slick roads, areas of limited visibility, and snow flurries through the Grapevine. The CHP Fort Tejon Area is not anticipating any closures at this time. We are advising drivers to SLOW DOWN. Speeding in these conditions increases your risk of being in a crash.

Multiple vehicle crash on northbound I-5, north of Fort Tejon Road with the far left lane closed. Emergency personnel are on scene. Officers are running traffic breaks to keep traffic slow and avoid more collisions. Visibility is limited through the area due fog, so slow down.

***UPDATE*** All northbound lanes are now open.

Due to a major injury crash on northbound I-5, south of Grapevine Road, the far left two lanes will be closed for an unknown duration. Traffic is heavy as you pass through the area. Emergency personnel and cleanup crews are on scene working to clear and reopen the lanes.

Semi on fire, southbound I-5, north of SR-138. The two far right lanes will be closed for an unknown duration. Please use caution when passing through the area. Follow behind traffic at a safe distance, don’t make abrupt lane changes, limit distractions and focus to driving safe.

***UPDATE*** The far left two lanes of southbound I-5, south of Grapevine Road are now open. The right two lanes will be closed for an unknown duration while crews work on clearing the lanes. If you have to travel through the area, be patient as traffic is heavy and backed up.

Southbound I-5, south of Grapevine Round is closed at this time due to a commercial vehicle fire. The commercial vehicle is fully engulfed with flames and smoke going across all lanes. Emergency crews are on scene working to extinguishing the fire.

***UPDATE*** The Laval Road west off ramp from northbound I-5 along with the northbound I-5 on ramp from Wheeler Ridge will remain closed while officers investigate this crash. Please use Wheeler Ridge north to David Road west to get to northbound I-5. Travel safe.

The off ramp from northbound I-5 to Laval Road will be closed for an unknown duration, due to a rollover crash involving a big rig. Emergency personnel are on scene. Please use an alternative exit if you need to exit at Laval Road.

The three far right lanes of southbound I-5, north of SR-138 are closed due to an injury crash. Traffic is heavy through the area. Emergency crews are on scene attempting to remove traffic the hazards. Please slow down, be patient, and stay buckled up.
