Tim. We want them to remove the tax and levies on fuel entirely. Pump price should be CIF + trade margin. Drive the economy using the fuel. They can collect the tax from subsequent economic activities. The certainty of income from tax on fuel has resulted fiscal bad manners.

Remember those people who said buy an electric vehicle, avoid the fuel drama, live your best life? The government heard them. 16% VAT on electric vehicles, batteries and e-bikes. Effective immediately. The escape route has been taxed. The emergency exit now has an entry fee. And just in case you thought you would charge that electric vehicle cheaply at home. Kenya Power has new electricity tariffs coming in July. So the fuel you were running away from and the electricity you were running to are both going up at the same time. There is nowhere to run. There is nowhere to charge. Every door you try to open, the government has quietly placed a tax on the handle. This is not incompetence. This requires actual skill. You have to be really paying attention to catch every single escape route and block it so precisely. The Kenyan government is many things. But it is not lazy especially when taxing you to death. As always, bad governance is an equaliser. @NdindiNyoro I would like to hear you thoughts on this as well. Will you be making a statement? Dismas wa Tabu. Dreaming in installments. Billed in full.
