@_microbudgetpod I work on my films whenever I have a day off or when I do get off work, I do a breakdown on what I can accomplish for the day even if it's just an hour or two, because even that can make a huge difference.

Not true. I’ve worked in marketing for going on 10 years. I’m an internationally awarded filmmaker whose feature just premiered on prime video. We filmed it on my PTO in 8 days. I’ve worked with crew who were uber drivers, bartenders, creative directors, art directors, etc.

Someone’s story: “To my neighbor who thinks mowing the lawn SHIRTLESS in a family neighborhood is totally normal. I've already contacted the authorities. This isn't a beach. It's not a gym. It's a residential street where families live and kids are outside all the time. I don't care if it's 90 degrees out - PUT A SHIRT ON! Basic standards and common courtesy still exist for a reason. Broad daylight. Front yard. What is the best advice you can give a microbudget filmmaker about directing a film, based on your own experience?

@Nicoleseelig @_microbudgetpod I work full-time in my day job, too, but you learn how to do it as time progresses. you write stories where it can be filmed in a day or two, then use another time off to edit, etc. keep the cast size to one or two from a script you wrote yourself from having burnt out.

@CINEMASAGE @_microbudgetpod It's great fun! I've only made 2, but I'm having to squeeze it in with a full time day job and making allowances for my actors' schedules, because life isn't cheap around London. UK.

@Nicoleseelig @_microbudgetpod I use pond5 for music, sound effects, stock photos and footage. I have directed over 30 shorts and 2 documentary features. selected over 280 festivals and won over 55 awards. I love micro making.

@CINEMASAGE @_microbudgetpod Make sure the dialogue is clear and audible, otherwise nobody will be interested in watching the whole thing. And don't scrimp on Foley in post. It will increase your production value no end and costs very little.

If you’re trying to write a short film that can be filmed in one location over a weekend, focus on an awkward, nerve wrecking, or terrifying conversation. Dialogue is a powerful tool when working with minimal resources.

@Nicoleseelig @_microbudgetpod and if you don't have a car, you could either ask a friend or just find location that could be your set... beach, park, restaurant, etc. just make your film.

@_microbudgetpod real filmmaking is making things and not worried about budgets. doing nothing doesn't make you a filmmaker. so, instead of trying to get that script, try make films and build a track record, and then maybe your script will be sold. but first, learn about empathy first.

“Microbudget filmmaking isn’t real filmmaking” You’ve been trying to get that feature script sold for 7 years. I’ve made 4 internationally awarded films in that time. And I shoot my next one this summer. Have fun being a real filmmaker tho.

@_microbudgetpod Sean baker's films like left handed girl and tangerine were shot on cellphones. I use cellphones but also my dslr camera to make my shorts and documentaries.

your microbudget film you make in your living room shot on an iPhone can still be visually stunning, well written, and festival awarded. It can also go viral on YouTube. A multimillion dollar star studded film can still bomb at the box office.
