An Ode To The Three-Weeks-Out Long Run 💝 "Most Boston runners will think of the race as the reward and the training as a necessary evil. The last few weeks of a marathon cycle before a taper are a bit like Heartbreak Hill itself: the toughest stretch of training at the toughest part of the block, with the best part just over the horizon but still a long ways to go. It’s not the fun part, at least in any obvious way, but it’s special nevertheless. The eternal wisdom of Miley Cyrus, however cliche, rings true: It ain’t about how fast you get there; it ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb." 📫 Read more via @TheLapCount: thelapcount.substack.com/i/192801392/an…

The Best Miler At Project 222 Could Be… Not Josh Kerr 🦹 "Kerr has done everyone else in the world a favor by putting an enormous target on his own back three months in advance. If you think you’ve got even a fighting shot at giving Guerrouj’s record a scare, why would you not get your ass to London? Kerr will have a handful of dedicated pacers and Wavelights. You can race with an even bigger advantage: all of that, plus Kerr himself! Make Kerr the Noah Ngeny of his own world record attempt!" 📫 Read more via @TheLapCount: thelapcount.substack.com/i/192801392/th…

2021 New York City Marathon champion Albert Korir 🇰🇪 has been handed a five-year ban after testing positive for CERA across three separate out-of-competition samples in October 2025. 💉Korir tested positive in urine and blood samples collected on October 3rd, 13th, and 21st, 2025, all in Kenya. CERA is an EPO-based blood booster prohibited at all times. The typical 4-year ban was bumped to 6 years due to aggravating circumstances (use on multiple occasions) but then reduced to 5 years after Korir admitted the violations within four days of being notified. Korir is suspended through January 7, 2031. All results since October 3, 2025 (including any medals, prize money, and appearance fees) are forfeited. This would include his 2:08:57, 3rd place finish at the 2025 New York City Marathon. Third place at the New York City Marathon pays out $40,000. WADA and ADAK retain the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

🕰️ World champion Josh Kerr will attempt to break the mile world record of 3:43.13, set by Hicham El Guerrouj in 1999, at the London Diamond League on July 18, 2026. Kerr and his longtime sponsor Brooks are calling their shot publicly, dubbing the attempt “Project 222”—a reference to his goal of running the mile in 222 seconds (3:42). Kerr’s current PB, 3:45.34, is the British national record and slots him No. 6 on the all-time list. Entering the outdoor season, he’s coming off of winning his second World Indoor Championships gold medal in the 3000m, having held off a late charge from 1500m Olympic champion and 5000m World champion Cole Hocker in Toruń, Poland. Books is going all-in for Kerr, with fully personalized race-day support, including: – A custom spike—expected to comply with all World Athletics guidelines—built around Kerr’s biomechanics, featuring advanced cushioning and a tuned carbon plate system – Three aerodynamic speed suit concepts with Kerr as the sole tester – Physiological support from the Brooks Run Research Lab covering sleep, hydration, and recovery 📰 Read more here: citiusmag.com/articles/proje… 🎧 Hear Kerr talk about the attempt in a fresh episode of The CITIS MAG Podcast. ▶️ SPOTIFY: open.spotify.com/episode/6HF0NN…
