The Athletic is reporting on itself and uses “according to a person familiar with the inquiry” as the source. That is weak as hell that no one in leadership will put his or her name on the fact they are conducting an in-house investigation. Per source: The Athletic miscalculated the scale of the Russini-Vrabel story. I'm told the outlet originally took Russini at her word that this was a hit job and the photos were taken out of context. As the backlash escalated and broader company execs got involved, the tone changed around Thursday morning.
