Anybody worked with an API that returns a *lot* of nested data? Building a vendor integration for work and some of the endpoints return massive JSON result sets and the thought of parsing the structure into DTOs is daunting. Is there a nice approach to this?

@njames @TeamStyleCI The only downside to CI doing it is people complaining when they try and push and have to first pull because their non-compliance was overridden 🤣

I'll add that you should make the process automated; php-cs-fixer via CI or something like @TeamStyleCI to handle it all for you. Don't rely on IDEs, or for humans to remember. Make it part of automated processes. Makes reviews easier when bots, not humans, fix style.
Brent@brendt_gd

The only coding style rule you need to follow is to keep whatever style you choose consistent within your team and open source projects. Let phpcsfixer handle the edge cases behind the scenes and share your IDE code style config with your team; done.

@calebporzio If you find any light switches are in unfortunate places (eg behind a couch.. 🤦‍♂️), smart globes in those fittings are a must.

@michaeldyrynda Haven't seen it, but going by comments, the assumption it was the token musical episode looks right.

@codebyjeff @AndrewFeeney So true, many occasions I've realised solutions to bugs in the process of explaining them to someone else.

@AndrewFeeney "15 Minute Rule" plus rubberduckasaservice.codebyjeff.com If you have spent 15min focused clearly on the bug, and can't work it out, rubber duck it or ask another person to give you 5min After 15min people tend to no longer actually see what is front of them; they see a "cached" version

Something that has helped me debug code is to recognize bugs happen for a reason. Though they may appear arbitrary or random there is always a logical set of events that cause them to surface. The challenge is identifying the pattern!

@devgummibeer @michaeldyrynda The functions are, but when calling them, their purpose is accessing/mutating database properties, so prefer to call consistently.

How are we naming variables in Laravel? Class methods? Model accessors? - Database fields I snake_case - Class methods camelCase - Variables camelCase - Model accessors always trip me because either will work, but only one (and I never remember which) works for relationships

@jeffrey_way I don’t docblock what I type. Only really use docblocks with DTOs when I’m doing something like string[] (array of strings)

@michaeldyrynda @ninjaparade One of the first gifts I wrapped for my (now) wife, took her about 30 mins to unwrap. Yell out if you want some tips 😉 Tractor book though... 🤔

@CJ_au Sounds like an EntSys problem 🤭 I did try and get Ubuntu in for ease of integration but had to concede. Don’t think OS development was the problem for us though.
