HOW does UK not allow legal right to breastfeeding breaks in workplace?! For mat leave, you get 90% pay for 18 wks; most cannot afford to take longer. WHO & UNICEF recommend breastfeeding for *2 years* due to health benefits for baby &mum. It wouldn’t take much to do much better.

Officially on my first day of mat leave! Tis a bit early as Bubs isn’t coming until closer to December but needs must when you’re emigrating home. We’ve a fun day of sorting through clothes and plant donations @george_superres

That's a wrap on an 11-year Postdoctoral career! 6 fixed term contracts, 4 groups, 3 universities. It's been a slog, but it's prepared me for the next step, PI-ville.

Not so fun for me but very glad to be home after 7 weeks in hospital following a 14.5 hour heart surgery.
Turns out I've had endocarditis for nearly 9 years despite years of antibiotic treatment. Hopefully the surgery and antibiotics this time will clear it 🤞🫀💊

Fun fact about this year's ContamCalendar - it was created entirely from a hospital bed after I spent 7 weeks in hospital following heart surgery. This surgery was actually partially related to both contamination and the ContamCalendars.... 📆🫀🩺🦠

My old friend @SuellaBraverman has described rough sleeping as a 'lifestyle choice' I always thought lifestyle choices were things such as cargo pants, fishing and decorating your bathroom with a bowl of potpourri.
