@rms099_rickdias @magozone23 Yes, I addressed this in another reply, but I am aware of what a self-insert character is. In most depictions of fiction it is not considered a "good character." And Shounen (mostly) of the 90s and 2000s didn't have it.

@ItsKylanHk6 @magozone23 My response to say that I do not want what happens to entertainment to happen to Shounen anime or manga (arguably it already has to a degree). I want protags that feel alive, and we had that in every show (that made it to America) when I was younger.

@ItsKylanHk6 @magozone23 Thank you for the "somewhat" honest response. I do not watch it (or read most manga of the variety). That was not the point of the original post. Shounen was targeted as a subgenre of anime, and I have watched many a Shounen. Most 15, 20 years ago.

@webosgratis @magozone23 I am sorry, I don't even recognize these images. Are they good manga? If so, I would love some recommendations right now. (The inconsistency of Watamote gets to me since I read so little now). Are they Shounen titles (fine either way, just curious with the discussion).

@cheeky_anon @magozone23 Yes and no. Modern Shounen is not really made for me, but at one point it was. I am going to "fuck off," in the meaning of not engage in these titles. But that does not mean I cannot critique a genre I once loved and hope for better overall.
