@chronicle Student groups and city & state leaders are working to find solutions (ex: UCSC is getting $89 million from the state to subsidize some of the cost of new housing). In the meantime, students must shoulder the cost of getting through college without having their basic needs met.

Last fall, I assigned @CKuimelis a quick story about new funding to ease California's student housing crisis. In our research, we came across Camper Park, where UC-Santa Cruz students live in trailers without reliable internet for $700 a month and everyone thinks this is normal.
