San Antonio Country Club - 1907 Alex Findlay Perfect day yesterday to check out this south Texas parkland classic. It’s smack dab in the middle of town, yet sneakily has a super interesting piece of land. Findlay is an unsung hero to American golf. He started life in the UK, then dedicated it to spreading golf in the USA. From Harry Vardon to Francis Ouimet, the people he influenced became golf history. The defense of the course are the greens and they are awesome. Super firm and fast, often with tight run offs, they provide all you can handle. A few domed greens can easily lead to double if on the wrong side. Tee to green it’s classic parkland. You can be more aggressive, but you risk being blocked on your next shot. I had to hit more punch shots that I can remember…and it was so fun. A good reminder trees can make for very interesting golf! Awesome day with great friends at a great club.
