🌍 SIOFA Selects CLS to Power Its Fisheries Monitoring Centre in the Southern Indian Ocean 🐟 Protecting deep-sea fisheries in the Southern Indian Ocean requires trusted data, proven technology and effective cooperation between States. We are proud to announce that the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) has selected THEMIS, CLS’s market-leading Fisheries Monitoring Centre (FMC), to support its mission. ⚖️The Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA) is a Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (RFMO) mandated to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fisheries resources within its Agreement Area. Under the Agreement, "fisheries resources" include all fishery resources in the Area, except highly migratory species listed in Annex I of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and sedentary species subject to the sovereign rights of coastal States pursuant to Article 77(4) of UNCLOS. 💻 Designed specifically for RFMOs and national authorities, THEMIS centralises vessel position data, enables real-time monitoring and secure information sharing, and complies with international standards. It provides a robust and interoperable operational backbone to strengthen Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) capabilities and contribute to the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. 🌐 With more than 60 Fisheries Monitoring Centres deployed worldwide, CLS is the global leader in FMC solutions. 🌍🛰️ Insights from the “Space Applications for Earth” panel at the France–UAE Forum for Research & Innovation This week, in Abu Dhabi, Stephanie Limouzin, our President, took part in the panel “Space Applications for Earth: Observation, climate, connectivity, what space innovations will transform our societies in the next decade?” hosted by @SorbonneAD during the France–UAE Forum for Research & Innovation. Held under the iconic dome of SUAD, a unique bridge between French academic tradition and Emirati vision, the discussion focused on how space technologies can support environmental monitoring, climate action, and sustainable resource management. 🌊 During the discussion, Stephanie Limouzin illustrated the concrete and strategic value of space applications through key future commercial stakes. She highlighted the maritime domain in particular, covering shipping, fisheries, offshore activities, and the fight against illegal activities, as a major area where space-based data and services already play a critical role and will become even more decisive in the coming years. ⚠️ She also emphasized the importance of space technologies in strengthening climate change resilience, enabling better anticipation, risk assessment, and preparedness in the face of increasingly frequent and intense environmental events. 🌍 CATSAT v7 Training Mission in Mexico: learning, sharing and moving forward together In early January, our CLS Fisheries Expert Alexandre Greve traveled to Mexico to lead a dedicated training mission alongside our trusted local partner AGES Technology, represented by Salvador Aguilar and Joel Castro. 🐟 The mission took place in Mazatlán, Mexico, during the tuna biological closure period known as the “veda”, an annual fishing ban designed to protect #tuna stocks and support sustainable reproduction. With vessels ashore, this period offered a valuable opportunity to meet crews, technicians and decision makers and to take the time for in depth exchanges. 🎯 This mission marked an important step in preparing Mexican purse seine fleets for the transition to #CATSAT v7. Beyond presenting a new version, the objective was to demonstrate the progress made in usability, data visualization and decision support tools, all designed to better meet operational needs at sea. ⚓ As CLS’s main customer in Mexico, @azteca_pesca played a central role in this mission.
