🌟 New idea for building community in our schools! 🌟
I created postcards for teachers to leave positive feedback when visiting colleagues’ classrooms. 📝💌 The purpose isn’t evaluative—just supportive. Imagine dropping by, leaving a kind note, and spreading encouragement and positive vibes.
✨ It’s a simple way to:
✔ Foster stronger relationships within your department (or across departments!)
✔ Celebrate the amazing things happening in classrooms
✔ Remind each other that the work we do matters 💙
Let’s lift each other up—one postcard at a time. 💌🌟

Happy Thursday! We're heading towards the end of our Back to School Members Only Week! Have you enjoyed all the freebies and ideas?
Here's another class activity to help you build those relationships! I usually print one copy per group, and then give them two dice. Whichever numbers they roll, they use the number on the left and the number on the top. Where they connect, that's the question they answer and/or ask their group. I actually leave it up to the students to decide if they are answering or asking the question. Some teams like to ask the question to the next person rolling the dice. It's a fun activity and easily edited so you can ask questions about the topic/theme/chapter you are on.

Our Back to School, Members Only Week continues with this great activity to get to know your students. Our member was inspired to design a jersey-type shirt, since the World Cup is coming soon! During the first week of school, this teacher made sure that they eased their way back into learning and teaching. It's so important to spend the time to build relationships in your classroom. Coloring and drawing have so many benefits such as stress reduction, improved focus, and enhanced creativity. It can also be a valuable tool for developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and emotional expression. Once they were done the teacher had them use their jersey to then share out with another partner. They swaped partners 3 times, practicing in the target language. After they practiced they had to record a video on Padlet talking about the information on their jerseys.

Back to School Freebie for our members! Inspired by @science_duo , our member created her own version! She uses this name tent activity with her students to not only learn about them but get her students to know each other in their groups. The teacher turns these activities into low-prep, low-stakes speaking opportunities in class.
The inside of the tent (back side of the handout) has a section for daily prompts that the teacher asks the students and she responds.
For some examples of the prompts and your own editable version of the tent, check out the CLTA Members Only page. Not a member yet? No worries, you can join or renew at clta.net/apply-or-renew….

LEARN THEIR NAMES! One of the most important things to do at the start of a new school year is to learn how to correctly pronounce your students' names.
Check out what one of our members does to make sure her students help her how to correctly pronounce their names. She has index cards for all her students as they come in. The # on the right corresponds to the group that they will be in. Students answer the questions using both sides of the index card. The teacher collects them and uses the index cards ALL year to call on students in class. It's a great way for the teacher to get to know the students and remember some important facts through the year.
