One of the worst bills of the session passed during the wee hours of the morning - as is customary for the worst of the worst bills. SB 5974 will give the Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC - a body appointed by the governor) the ability to de-certify your elected sheriff and remove them from office. The bill has passed the Senate and House - next stop is the governor's desk for signing into law. The bill will take effect on April 30, impacting the 2026 sheriff elections.

No, that's not what it means when it's part of a bill. It means that it will take effect immediately upon signing because it is necessary for public good (that's their line, anyway). This is different than when the governor declares and emergency. Bills without the "emergency clause" usually take effect 90 days after signing or on a specific date.

HB 2242 (companion to SB 5967) is the next step in WA's vaccine framework. This framework has been building consistently each legislative session - each time with bipartisan support (on the senate side) Yesterday HB 2242 passed the Senate with 7 Republican Senators voting yes - the House vote was party-line split. This is clearly in line with the “West Coast Health Alliance” between CA, OR, WA, HI. Surely what radically authoritarian policy one state adopts, the other three will adopt in lockstep. Bobferg seems to care about two things only - spending as much money as possible, and opposing anything that the Trump admin puts forward. Heck, if Trump made an EO requiring schools to adopt multi-gender policy, Ferguson would probably insist that there are only two genders. How long until Oregon reclassifies hunting and fishing as a health emergency? How long until Hawaii reclassifies firearms ownership as a health emergency? I can’t tell with California, they just seem like the dumb giant that wants to follow the leader while stealing everyone’s money.

I bet more than just getting drunk happens in Olympia. That's probably the tip of the iceberg. As we've seen over the years, in the other Capitol, with drinking comes drugging, sex with minors, rape, and other crimes that politicians want covered up. Thanks for highlighting @CLofWashington. During a dinner w/ @DrOz last week, I asked him specifically about this effort. His response was two-fold: 1) Pediatricians comp is directly tied to vax scores, more vaxes, more money. There's a direct economic component. 2) The US vax schedule for kids has grown too much, with illnesses like Hep B, a sexually transmitted illness prescribed for newborns as an example. There are ones that should be on the list (MMR for instance), but needs to be re-evaluated. Very disappointing to see R Senators voting to hand more power to Ferguson and the misguided crew that brought you Covid vax mandates.
