Yes, you can park in your own driveway. No, your car cannot block the sidewalk. Through PermitSF, we passed legislation to get rid of outdated laws that prohibited San Francisco residents from parking cars in their own driveways. Just follow these guidelines: ✅ You can park in the driveway in front of your house. ✅ No part of your car can overhang onto the sidewalk. ✅ You may park parallel to the curb in front of your own driveway, if your vehicle is registered to that address and the building has two or fewer units. When in doubt, visit SFMTA.com/ParkLegally to review parking rules. With PermitSF, we’re making life easier for residents, small businesses, and all San Franciscans through common-sense changes.

San Francisco needs a reset. Our city charter is one of the longest in the country. It is bloated. It is broken. And it only works for the people who know how to manipulate it—not everyday San Franciscans. Today, I’m proposing reforms to clean up our city charter and make the government, and me, more accountable to you. Here is the breakdown. First: we are going to fix the city’s broken contracting system to make sure that your tax dollars are being spent efficiently and transparently. By bringing contracting under one entity, the City Administrator, we can set consistent citywide standards that will cut red tape, reduce delays, and save taxpayer dollars. Second: we are going to make our ballots shorter and simpler. That long voter packet that you received in 2024 had 15 ballot measures on it. In the same election, Oakland had 3. San Jose had 1. San Francisco makes it so easy to put things on the ballot that our elected officials don’t have to do their jobs. The result? San Franciscans have to fill out lengthy, confusing ballots, including contradictory measures and sometimes poorly written laws. This will ensure that ballot measures reflect real citywide priorities—and that elected officials focus on the job voters sent them here to do: delivering results for the people of San Francisco. Third: accountability. San Franciscans expect our city to deliver world-class services. To do that, we need to be able to hold those in leadership accountable. But right now, our charter rewards bureaucracy and scatters responsibility—protecting those in power, even if they have demonstrated serious ethical lapses. These reforms would change that to ensure that when San Franciscans elect a mayor, they know who is responsible for delivering results. San Franciscans elect people to run their government, and those leaders should be accountable for whether it works. If it doesn’t, you should know exactly who to hold responsible—that’s the point of elections. This package of reforms is about results. It’s about accountability. It’s about making City Hall work for San Francisco.

We’re seeing real progress in our work to help people move off the streets and into stability, and to make neighborhoods cleaner and safer for families. Right now, tent and encampment numbers are at the lowest level we’ve recorded. We’re also making progress moving people out of RVs and into housing: RV numbers are at their lowest since we began counting, down nearly 20% since the last count, and 47 households have already been housed through the program. We’re also reconnecting people with family and support systems through Journey Home, which helped 44 people return to loved ones in February—the highest monthly total since 2022. By using every tool available—from housing to treatment to reunification—we’re starting to turn things around. There’s still a lot of work ahead, and we’re going to keep building on this progress.

No more lines. No more paperwork. With our PermitSF Portal, we are bringing San Francisco’s permitting online. You can now apply for permits wherever you want, whenever you want. Too many San Franciscans know the pain of waiting in line and dealing with lengthy paperwork to get a simple permit. If we want small residents to thrive, businesses to grow, and housing to move faster, we have to make City Hall work better.

Super Bowl 60 week in San Francisco was one for the books—a week of energy and excitement that brought visitors from across the country and around the world to our city. We had packed restaurants, our waterfront was buzzing, and our downtown was filled with fans. San Francisco showed up in a big way. Here is what that week looked like in numbers: 🚔 Violent Crime ⬇️ 37% 🚔 Property Crime ⬇️ 35% 👥 Visitors to Hospitality Zone ⬆️ 70% 🦭 Pier 39 Attendance ⬆️ 70% ⛴️ Ferry Building Foot Traffic ⬆️ 24% ✈️ 1.2M Passengers Through SFO 🏨 Hotel Revenues ⬆️ 230% 💳 Nearly $170M Spent on Visa Cards at Local Businesses ⬆️ Almost 20% 🍽 Dining on OpenTable ⬆️ 21% 🚔 All Citywide Crime ⬇️ 35% in 2026 We showed what’s possible when San Francisco comes together. With a focus on public safety, we ensured that everyone who lives here and visited had a safe and welcoming experience. Our small businesses shined, our hospitality was on full display, and we sent a clear message to the world: San Francisco is a city on the rise. Let’s go, San Francisco!

Through the last week of negotiations, I’ve been saying to our school district, our educators, and our parents that I want our kids to be in school on Monday. The conversations were productive yesterday, continuing well into the night, but it appears that now, work has ended for the evening, and our public schools will be closed tomorrow. I’m disappointed that the parties could not come to an agreement. And frankly, I’m frustrated—real progress has been made, and there are hours left in the day that should be spent working to keep schools open tomorrow. There is no reason both parties can’t be at the table right now figuring this out. These are complex and important negotiations. That’s why I, and other city leaders, asked both parties this morning to allow three additional days for schools to stay open while conversations continue. I have made myself and my office available to both parties at any time. I have been here all day, and I will stay as long as it takes to get this done—but I am continuing to urge the parties to reach an agreement as soon as possible. At the same time, our team has been preparing for this scenario all week. The city is ready to provide support to public school students. That includes meal distribution for students who rely on school for food access, extra hours at community childcare centers and Rec and Park programs, and community safety resources to keep kids safe if they’re not in school. If your family is impacted by school closures, please check in with your childcare or afterschool programs to see if they have extended hours. Local public libraries are also open as normal—but remember: children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. For resources and information, visit SFUSD.edu. San Franciscans deserve schools where students thrive and our educators feel truly supported. I am disappointed that the parties couldn’t reach an agreement today, but I will continue to do whatever I can to keep the adults talking so our kids can keep learning. And I have talked to the leaders on both sides, I am confident that if they come back to the table and stay there, they can get this done quickly.

San Francisco’s 50,000 public school students must have quality education. That’s why stability for our students while negotiations continue is essential. To that end, I support the Mayor’s ask that there be three additional days for conversations to continue. It is with respect for stakeholders that I encourage ongoing engagement between our educators, the district and Mayor Lurie. Our teachers are custodians of our children five days of the week and they deserve our support, our students need continuity and our families deserve certainty. -NP

For the past week, I have been in direct communication with UESF and the school district, and I have continued to provide support from the city to help them come to an agreement.    Both sides made important progress yesterday, and I am incredibly appreciative of the hard work of our educators and the district.    Now, it is critical that they continue the conversation so our kids can stay in school. I have made my office available to both parties, and I have told them that I will be available—day and night, as long as it takes—to reach an agreement that supports our hardworking educators while keeping the school district on the path to fiscal stability.   In the scenario that an agreement cannot be reached today, I have asked both UESF and the school district to agree to three additional days for conversations to continue—that would allow kids to stay in the classroom and the adults to keep talking.    Our students and our parents need certainty ahead of tomorrow. I know everyone participating in these negotiations is committed to schools where students thrive and our educators feel truly supported, and I will continue working to ensure that.
