Last Thursday, our community gathered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of S.A.I.L.’s Japanese Immersion Program! Thank you to the many students, staff, and volunteers who made this event possible!

Girls flag football is officially a sanctioned varsity sport in North Carolina! CMS and the CarolinaPanthers came together yesterday to celebrate what they started five years ago: a pilot program that sparked the first girls flag football league in the state.

Yesterday, we gathered at the Stage Door Theatre for the 2nd Annual CMS Arts Educator Awards. It was a privilege to honor the incredible teachers who inspire creativity and excellence across our district every day. Congratulations to all of our honorees!

Last night’s Gem Awards honored the dedication our teachers show each day. Congrats to all the finalists and especially our winners: Rebeckah Hauss (Teacher of the Year), Reese Finnie (Beginning Teacher of the Year), and Clarice Surles (Teacher Assistant of the Year).

Board members Hatch and Haynes stopped by the Charlotte Engineering Early College/Charlotte Teacher Early College Senior Expo yesterday morning to see our seniors showcase the results of their year-long capstone work. Our students were incredible!

Board members London and Shipp were honored to attend the CMS JROTC Cadet Achievement Awards Ceremony last Thursday at the Bojangles Coliseum. A huge congratulations to all the cadets recognized for their hard work and dedication to service.

Celebrating 100 years of community impact! Board Members Hatch, Haynes, and Witherspoon had a great time connecting with local leaders during the Junior League of Charlotte's Centennial Public Officials Breakfast last Friday.

The Board will hold a virtual Emergency Meeting today, April 24, at 11:30 AM. Join us in person on Mon, April 27, for the Family & Community Engagement Committee Meeting. We also invite you to attend our regular Board Meeting, Tues, April 28, either in person or via livestream.

It’s always great when Board members visit schools and see the daily hustle firsthand. This latest round of visits for Board member Hatch included a stop at Hopewell High School to catch up with students and staff, plus some time at Bailey Middle and Cornelius Elementary.

A huge round of applause for Leta Smith, a 4th grader at Collinswood Language Academy, for winning today’s annual Spanish Spelling Bee! We celebrate Leta and every student who stepped up to compete today.

THANK YOU to every student, parent, and teacher who submitted to The Crown Collection! With 600+ entries, the competition showcased the immense artistic talent in our schools. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 13. Stay tuned!

Saturday's 4th Annual East Side Summit was a success! Thank you to everyone who joined Board Chair Sneed, Commissioner Jerrell, and Council Member Anderson to discuss our E.A.S.T. priorities: Education, Affordable Housing, Support Services, and Transportation.
