@Evertxn Why should companies get away with reduced wagers for younger workers for doing the same job all because they’re 18 or 19? This is what happened when I used to work for explore learning when I was that age. How’s that fair lol

@PeterMcCormack @mcnicollme So the market rate goes to £15 and you want to pay the market rate but you don’t want to pay that at the same time? What if 1 staff member is ok at the job and “worth” £12/hr, but 1 excels and is “worth” £18/hr? Is that better somehow?

Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪
A minimum wage of £15 would end my coffee shop, it would have to close, as would many other businesses. I’ll explain for the economically illiterate. Staff costs are currently half our costs, a £15 minimum wage is actually more than £15 an hour for the company, because you have to add: - 12.07% holiday - Sick pay - Maternity pay if and when required - National insurance - Pension contributions These costs would mean the shop loses money because remember, energy costs are up, rates are up, regulations are up. Now you can pass these costs onto the consumer - that would mean charging a lot more for coffee, people won’t pay it. The likes of Starbucks and Costa can, because they have economies of scale. The independent doesn’t. Now the little socialist will say well this is your fault, if you can’t run a business that can afford to pay its staff properly, but the little socialist has never run a business and does not understand the dynamics. Now I could pay some staff off and fill those hours myself or reduce us to one staff member during certain periods - but this proves the point that a minimum wage costs jobs. There was a time when these jobs were done by kids, perhaps on the weekend, paid a lower wage, no holiday and no silly employment rights. Perhaps they were even paid cash. The dynamic worked and small businesses like this could operate. It was also a great first job. Sadly now it isn’t worth employing entitlement youngsters at this level of pay. So alas, I don’t need the stress, the business would close, a number of jobs would be lost. Economics is about understanding these dynamics, no vibes. The cost of living is not solved through passing on inflation to the business, it is solved by ending high inflation and creating prosperity. This is what socialists don’t understand, they can’t create prosperity, they can only destroy it.

The Greens will raise the minimum wage to £15 for all workers 💪

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Oh yeah it’s all propaganda even though everything can be verified. It’s more of a 7th grade mindset to believe that humans could live in a system that completely relies on being altruistic

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Communism doesn’t work, even in theory it’s stupid . Assumes that humans will stop having human nature . Leads to everyone being poor, failed every time it’s tried for a reason, still has a ruling class and can’t keep up with capitalist countries because it has no markets

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN So 2 years after a famine they’re using their resources for a nuclear bomb. The us has never had a famine, it’s almost like the state controlling everything isn’t good . The us invested heavily into weapons, space program but never had food shortages

@CMac0377 @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN nuclear bomb? we were talking about the space program. also very interesting that whenever there's a famine in a communist country, it's due to the economic system and purposeful, but when it happens in a capitalist country, it's akin to a natural disaster and inevitable.

@CMac0377 @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN if it's so easy to prove it then you should be able to do it right here. I'm not going to spend energy refuting the ridiculous claim that the soviets starved their entire populace to make a few rockets.

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN So standard of living was much worse, food scarcity was a problem, living conditions were poor, there was gulags and state controlled media and leaders with absolute power but because they starved their population for the space program it was good?

@CMac0377 @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN they were behind in development compared to the west, of course it was worse. that doesn't change the fact that their level and speed of development under the USSR was an incredible accomplishment. they went from an agrarian society to a space-faring one in 50 years.

@droteha @ZmudaEthan @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Completely irrelevant point. People choosing to eat unhealthy has nothing to do with the conversation. Unless you think people shouldn’t be able to choose what to eat in a communist system , irrelevant. But shift the conversation again because you have no counter

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Living conditions were significantly worse then the west during the same time period, the countries that left the Soviet Union like Poland, Czech republic have much better living conditions now they are capitalist. There’s a reason it always fails

@CMac0377 @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN living conditions under the soviet union were far greater than under the tsars and far greater than after its fall. also, soviet union was socialist, not communist. words have meanings. the end goal of socialism is communism, however the USSR collapsed before it reached its goal.

@CMac0377 @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN Yes and you should ask yourself why would ordinary people choose to strike in the first place . Could it be that they want to be paid a living wage 🤷🏻‍♀️

@droteha @ZmudaEthan @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Really? We live in the safest time to ever be a human. If you live in the uk or us there is never a shortage of food or water . Insulin doesn’t spawn in, it’s made by humans who have to be paid for their work. It’s not a problem for the uk with the nhs

@CMac0377 @ZmudaEthan @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN “Abundance was caused by capitalist systems” that’s an outright lie . Capitalism is notorious for causing scarcity of resources “You won’t die” ?? Tell that to the people dying because they are rationing insulin since they can’t afford it

@ZmudaEthan @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN Abundance isn’t a natural state, it was caused by capitalist systems. You might be alienated from the process but you won’t die if you mess up the process. It’s easy to call specialisation while using everyday things created by specialisation

@CMac0377 @droteha @1Andrew_J @OrevaZSN there is a way we can continue the abundance of the modern post-scarcity world while decreasing the alienation of labor and it's called communism. alienation of labor is caused by specialization, yes, but that is driven by capitalism and often unnecessary. e.g. insurance salesmen

@droteha @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN Do you understand what a strike is? It’s to cause a disruption. If it’s not disruptive and annoying it wouldn’t work . I said you can support a strike but still find it annoying. Obviously reading comprehension isn’t your best skill

@CMac0377 @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN Do you think people don’t have anything better to do with their time than strike??! How daft can you be? Also the gains you have as a worker is because of workers strikes so you better kiss the 🍑 of Karl Marx & all the workers who were beaten & bloodied for the rights you enjoy

@droteha @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN I’m not an idiot, strikes are annoying because that’s their leverage . I can support wage rises but be annoyed my train in cancelled. I’d rather be able to walk into a supermarket and buy some food then spend all year growing my own for it be reliant on factors out of my control

@droteha @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN Not relevant to what I said at all. If you want to live off the land and not work why don’t you do it? People get annoyed with strikes because they’re made to be annoying, if you can’t get to work because train drivers are on strike or your bins don’t get collected, it’s annoying

@droteha @1Andrew_J @ZmudaEthan @OrevaZSN You do a job and get paid to do a job. You can choose not to work and live off the grid if you wanted and grow your own food. Now you go to work and can buy goods and services provided by other people’s work so they can get paid for their work
