In the sacred city of Puri, where the sea whispers ancient hymns, devotees once gathered in longing to see Lord Jagannath. Among them was a humble old woman who had nothing to offer no gold, no flowers only a small bowl of simple rice.
When the grand offerings were made in the temple, her heart felt heavy. Yet, with deep devotion, she placed her bowl before the Lord and closed her eyes. That night, the temple priests were astonished—the finest offerings remained untouched, but the simple rice was gone.
In a dream, the Lord revealed, “I accept not the richness of the offering, but the purity of the heart.” From that day, her devotion became a legend, reminding all that love is the greatest offering.
Sanskrit Verse :
“पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति ।
तदहं भक्त्युपहृतम् अश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः ॥”
Meaning :
Whoever offers Me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water I accept that loving offering from the pure-hearted.
