Charging 80 rupees for downloading an FIR copy and 100 rupees for a DDR copy in Punjab is not just a fee, it’s a barrier to justice. For many in cities 80 rupees may seem trivial, but ut think about a poor villager. Authorities claim complainants can get a free copy from the police station. But let’s be honest even today, getting an FIR copy from the police isn’t always easy. Delays, excuses and avoidance are common. With this new rule, it risks becoming an even bigger hurdle. Instead of strengthening transparency and citizens’ rights, this move weakens them. I’m genuinely surprised that this has happened in Punjab!
