Earlier today, COLANDEF hosted an 8 member delegation from the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs of the Republic of The #Gambia, who are on a study tour of Ghana’s Land Sector Institutions.

Participants were trained on Africa’s Land Governance Systems, Types of Rights and Interests in Land, Gender-Responsive Land Administration, and the Integration of Customary and Statutory Systems in Land Governance.

At the maiden national land policy review engagement with the National House of Chiefs, COLANDEF emphasized the gaps in GESI integration and its impact on equitable access and governance. There was consensus among the Chiefs that GESI deserves attention in the new land policy.1/3

Advocacy for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in land and natural resource governance is one of the key areas of attention for COLANDEF. This is why as we participate in the national land policy review process, we use every opportunity to create awareness on GESI.

The work at hand is enormous. However, this collaborative process with GSS and ISSER represents a step towards establishing a national framework for tracking and reporting on the status of women’s land, property and natural resource rights.

One of the main recommendations from the March 2025 National Forum on the Status of Women’s Land, Property and Natural Resource Rights was to seek support from research institutions to review and validate the set of indicators stakeholders agreed should be tracked.

Customary Land Secretariat (CLS) is an important #institution legalized under the new Land Act and mandated to perform customary land administration services. @COLANDEF is proud to be providing support to 70 out of about 95 established Customary Land Secretariats in Ghana.
