Upon returning to the U.S., he served at March Air Force Base in California, continuing in the air police role and was honorably discharged in August 1962 with the rank of Airman First Class. His military experience, particularly the exposure to martial arts in Korea, was pivotal and likely launched his life path to becoming a world champion in karate, founding his own martial arts style Chun Kuk Do, and eventually his legendary career in action films and TV.
