In 2020, bodybuilder Bobby Humphreys fell into a severe depression and even tried to k*ll himself after his wife left him. But tiny dogs saved his life.
On New Year's Eve 2016, Bobby Humphreys' wife of 17 years filed for divorce and walked out.
A week later he tore his shoulder in the gym and needed reconstructive surgery. He started drinking and sank into a deep depression.
His friend Connie refused to leave him alone. "She literally just wouldn't go away no matter how much I told her to," he wrote.
“She had lost friends to that before and wasn't going to lose me."
When Connie was kicked out of her home and couldn't take her chihuahua Lady with her, Bobby agreed to take the dog in.
Lady had a notoriously bad temperament. Bobby had always mocked men who owned small dogs. None of that mattered. He found that the only thing that made him happy was spending time with her.
He then found Kira, a chihuahua with food aggression issues, then Harley and her sister Queen who had lived in terrible conditions, then Bella whose nails had grown so long they doubled back into her paws.
He couldn't stop.
In October 2018 his home officially became Big Guy, Littles World Sanctuary. It now houses 99 chihuahuas and one cat.
He funds it himself by selling CBD products he developed, and sleeps each night surrounded by the 20 smallest and most fragile ones.
