Those new rockin' @Kars4kids radio ad spots are outstanding. And they should be, because they took in $99.9 million in 2023 and blew $39.6 million of it on marketing! If only there was a charity where 90% went to programs... oh wait... cotap.org/donate-your-ca…!

@joeroganhq Many fascinating and worthy guests but too many repeats, too many comedian/UFC/filler types, too many who fit with his "narratives." @joerogan is mailing it in more than he used to and needs to step outside of his comfort zone more.

As Google's Scope 2 emissions explode 3x from 2020 to 3.1m tonnes, it teams up with a $30 million Series A for-profit. Not surprisingly, "Both companies declined to comment on the value of the deal." What $/% is going to participating rural communities?! reuters.com/sustainability…

It’s not the temperature. It’s the vulnerability. Gates is spot on.

One of the most valuable points @billgates makes is this: "Temperature isn't the best way to measure progress on climate." Lots more on #sustainwhat: revkin.substack.com/p/cutting-carb… Back when I interviewed him in Seattle in 2016 his climate work was almost all emissions-focused, rather than focused on risk reduction. 1/2

So there's active ethnic cleansing in Sudan as the U.S. announces a 2026 refugee ceiling of 7,500... down from 125,000 and now prioritizing white South Africans. Or maybe not? The next TACO Tuesday is coming up November 4th...

If direct air removal costs $500 per tonne, removing just US emissions would cost ~$3 trillion annually (~4x US military spending). It would also require twice the total power generation capacity of the US today (and it has to be carbon-free). thebulletin.org/2023/12/direct…

My hypothesis, sadly, is that the surge/crash pattern in climate journalism exists because news outlets are chasing a limited pool of readers who are already engaged. You can throw more reporters at it, more glitzy visuals, but in the end, it’s a finite audience. There is an aura of engagement as climate-focused news consumers like and repost content for others in this limited pool to like and repost.
