The relationship was independent of age, kidney function, parathyroid hormone and vitamin D levels. More research is needed to confirm the causality and to explore how diet or supplements influence osteocalcin levels and in turn, bone strength.

Our findings highlighted that carboxylated osteocalcin, a key bone matrix protein, is independently associated with stronger femoral bone structure — suggesting its potential as a biomarker for bone health assessment.
