Often overlooked, mocked, and the target of complaints, these people matter! They know our kids, they serve selflessly, they counsel, they listen, and they have influence. They are often overlooked. Their work is not meaningless. Like all work, it's sacred work. Today, pray for them. . . and if you see or know a school lunch lady or man, thank them. These folks are part of the village our kids need today! #schoollunchheroes #youthministry #studentministry

My husband has been pastoring since 1988. Retirement age is within sight in a few years. But he still gets overwhelmed by The Word, Person, and Love of God. He still gets tears in his eyes at the lostness of our city. He still leaves home in the dark each morning and comes home sometimes 16 hours later, spent and hoarse but dreaming a God-sized vision for the mission and God’s glory. He smells like sheep, he works like a shepherd. 38 years in the soul business: no podcast, no books written, no conference platforms, no “brand”. It’s been a grand life on this adventure with Jesus doing real ministry with real people for a real Kingdom. I hope the young pastors that come behind him can see that the grit, focus, endurance, commitment and selflessness required is built by showing up in your field and strapping on that easy yoke, lowering your head, and plowing around the stumps. Everyday… for the rest of your life. Chase souls, not clout. “Preach the gospel, die, and be forgotten.” He has loved his family well in the midst of it, at great sacrifice of himself, no hint of scandal, high accountability, honest and mostly invisible work. This is the leader I love and respect because I’ve seen it bloom and build with supernatural power and grace. A life of ministry is like getting to climb Mt Everest: If you survive, you’ve got a great story to tell.

Survivors often lose their place in the church for speaking the truth about their abuse. They lose any status they had. They lose honor and trust. All because of the things that were done TO them. Rather than accuse and disparage them, we must see them and embrace their courage.

Youthworkers. . . effective influence doesn't happen in a quick social media post for all the world to see or the time-consuming gymnastic routine of building your "brand". Effective influence comes through the pursuit of a long, faithful, and unrenowned life of obedience lived in the presence of a close few. #YouthMinistry #studentministry

Caregiver, when you sit with overwhelming pain, it will frighten you, and you will want to alleviate it quickly so both people in the room can feel better. Be careful. Pain is a protest in the human constitution that something is wrong.

It misrepresents God when we tell victims of atrocious, life-changing abuse to simply forgive and forget. Forgiveness of any wrong, let alone a life-shattering one, is never a “just do it” task.
