Report and upcoming paper from the @CQUni Experimental Gambling Research Laboratory (#EGRL) shows that restricted accessibility of pokies/EGMs in Western Australia is the main factor behind the lower rate of gambling problems in WA compared to the rest of Australia.

Gambling is restricted to those aged 18 or older. Our recent study of NSW youth aged 12-17 found that 29.8% had gambled on monetary forms of gambling. The strongest influence on youth gambling was parents, with exposure to gambling ads also a concern. responsiblegambling.nsw.gov.au/research2/rese…

Fewer Australians are gambling compared to a decade ago. In 2010-11, 64.3% of adult Australians gambled at least once a year. In 2019, thanks figure was 56.9%. And fewer people are gambling on every gambling form. Find out more here: gamblingresearch.org.au/publications/n…
