Despite sharing a cover and name, they have mechanical differences, different modes, different characters and different music.
They're different games, missleadingly presented as versions of one game.

When it was YI64 you can see adults with closer designs to Island in the prototype artwork. Sadly if it was like now where Smash determines the designs we be far better off

They did try to do front facing Yoshi for a bit then they stopped cause they realized his character design looks weird as hell from the front. It’s like the Simpsons characters, they only work from a 3/4 or 1/2 angle.

@lowkeydracula @coolestfucker @starysketch Eh, I don’t think that would’ve changed anything it’s still mostly Story’s fault and games after it following its design like MP.
You had the Island design being used in Melee, but once Sunshine came out it was just the final nail in the coffin till EPD makes another Yoshi game

@coolestfucker @starysketch if mario kart 64 didn’t lose all its files halfway through development, forcing them to use the yoshi’s story model to save time, none of this would be a problem today and yoshi wouldn’t have a bowling ball for a face! fuck!
