The liquid detergent in washing pods can cause life-changing chemical burns to eyes, skin and throats. Little ones may mistake them for sweets and bite into them. Or they may think they are a toy and squeeze them so hard they burst. Learn more: capt.org.uk/washing-pods-a…

Your baby should sleep in the same room as you, day and night, for at least the first six months to help reduce the risk of SIDS. It’s fine to nip to the loo or make a quick cuppa - just keep your baby close and in the same room as much as possible.

For Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the positive impact water can have on our mental wellbeing. Time spent in, on, or around water, including swimming and lifesaving sport, can support both physical and emotional health. rlss.org.uk/water-safety-a…

Always put your baby to sleep on their back with their feet to the foot of the cot or Moses basket. Make sure to keep baby’s head and face uncovered and make sure they don’t get too hot. For more information, please visit lullabytrust.org.uk

Give your baby a clear, flat, separate sleep space, such as a cot or Moses basket, in the same room as you both day and night. Never fall asleep with baby on a sofa or chair; this can increase the risk of death by 50%. For more information, please visit lullabytrust.org.uk

Mental Health Awareness Week Monday 11 May – Sunday 17 May 2026 The focus of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week which is led by the Mental Health Foundation is Action, for yourself, for someone else, for all of us. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. Whilst our individual actions matter, when we come together, we are even more powerful. This year’s theme focuses on turning awareness into meaningful steps that help protect and improve mental health. While understanding mental health is important, real change happens when we act—whether that’s looking after ourselves, or supporting someone else. Even small actions can have a powerful impact. Create Your Own NHS Mind Plan👇 nhs.uk/every-mind-mat… Taking action can start with understanding what supports your own mental health. By answering five short questions, the NHS Mind Plan tool provides: 💚Personalised mental wellbeing tips 💚Practical actions tailored to how you’re feeling 💚Ideas you can build into everyday working life Support is available if you are struggling, need urgent help or to talk to someone. 🟢If you need urgent help you can Call 999 🟢Go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department (AandE). You can search for your local department through the NHS Choices website. 🟢NHS helpline 111 provides urgent healthcare advice 🟢If you need to talk to someone urgently the Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123 For non-emergency situations you can contact your GP or visit the NHS Choices website: nhs.uk

Alcohol and water don’t mix. Many accidental drowning incidents involve alcohol and/or drugs which can: ➡ Affect your judgement ➡ Increase risk-taking ➡ Make accidents more likely Make sure you plan a safe route home, with friends and away from water. #BeWaterAware

As the weather gets warmer it will be great to open windows and let the fresh air in. But toddlers and young children are at greatest risk of falling out and suffering serious injuries. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much to keep them safe. Learn more: capt.org.uk/falls-from-ope…

Accidents can happen when you least expect them. About half of people who accidentally drown never intended to enter the water. Remember, water safety starts on land. Find out what you should do if you fall into the water: tinyurl.com/sdua5k3k #BeWaterAware @NFCC_FireChiefs
