👋 Meet Dana Lyons, RPhT Dana is a Manager within Provincial Operations at Alberta Health Services. In her job she focuses on building practical, reliable systems that support safe and consistent medication distribution across the province. Her day-to-day work includes leading the upgrade in 21 hospitals to meet national compounding standards by 2028, while also helping to design the new Centralized Distribution Center for Southern Alberta. This systems‑focused experience naturally extends into Dana’s national leadership as co‑chair of CSHP’s Compounding Community, a collaborative space where pharmacy professionals share expertise, strengthen standards, and support one another through the challenges of compounding practice. “Being part of this community of practice has meant connection and shared responsibility. It’s a space that reminds me that improvement work isn’t just technical, it’s human. Learning alongside others who are equally committed to safer, more consistent systems has strengthened my perspective. It reinforces something I deeply believe: we don’t improve systems in isolation, we strengthen them by learning and building together.” Her efforts support safer, more dependable care across the country. 👋 Meet Ava Azhir, BSc. (Pharm), ACPR, PharmD, BCACP. Ava is a clinical pharmacy specialist whose leadership is helping shape national practice in anticoagulation and cardiovascular care. As lead of the Anticoagulation Management Clinic at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, she provides specialized care for patients requiring anticoagulation therapy and supports the safe, evidence informed use of complex cardiovascular and hematologic medications. In her work as Chair of CSHP’s Anticoagulation and Cardiology Community, Ava helps cultivate a supportive and collaborative environment that connects colleagues across Canada to amplify their ability to deliver safe, high-quality care. “Being part of this Community of Practice has transformed professional isolation into collective purpose. It has been both an anchor and a catalyst for my practice — grounding my clinical work in shared standards while continually challenging me to grow as a clinician, educator, and leader. Through collaboration and mentorship, this community supports stewardship, sustains expertise, and turns individual knowledge into shared impact for patients.” Ava’s commitment to care and collaborative practice reflects how #PharmacyCan be anywhere healthcare happens, strengthening outcomes through shared expertise.

On May 5, Red Dress Day, the @CSHP_SCPH proudly stands in solidarity with the Indigenous Pharmacy Professionals of Canada (IPPC) to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit (MMIWG2S) people. We were honoured to wear these shirts together at our annual CSHP conference, and to share this moment as a pharmacy community committed to awareness, action, and advocacy. Survivors and families have shared a powerful truth: “The Silence is Killing Us.” By wearing shirts bearing the message “We will speak for the silenced,” we affirm our responsibility to listen, learn, and create safer, more inclusive pharmacy spaces—spaces rooted in respect, trust, and cultural humility. All proceeds from these shirts supported the Cheryl Swidrovich Indigenous Pharmacy Fund, which advances the professional and cultural development of intergenerational survivors of the Indian Residential School system. We are also grateful to Awāsis Boutique, founded by Métis and Filipino entrepreneur Christine Marie, for their meaningful, ethically grounded designs that reflect reconciliation in action.
