JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT Born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn and passing away on August 12, 1988, in New York City, Jean-Michel Basquiat is recognized as one of the most powerful and influential forces in 20th-century contemporary art. He first rose to prominence in the late 1970s within the gritty New York scene under the graffiti pseudonym “SAMO,” covering city walls with poetic, rebellious, and socio-politically satirical epigrams. By the early 1980s, Basquiat catapulted onto the international art stage with his raw, fierce painting style, a volcanic fusion of street graffiti, African symbology, jazz roots, Black history, and pop culture imagery. His canvases frequently featured his signature three-pointed crown, a symbolic motif used to elevate and crown Black figures, artists, and historical legends who had been marginalized by society. He famously collaborated with Andy Warhol and became a leading figure of the Neo-Expressionist movement in America. Though his career spanned a mere decade, Basquiat produced thousands of works and permanently shifted the global perception of street art, proving that graffiti could transcend the pavement to enter world-class museums and the high-end art market. Basquiat passed away in 1988 at the tragic age of 27, yet his legacy has only grown monumental over time. Today, his paintings command tens to hundreds of millions of dollars at auction, solidifying his status as an immortal symbol of artistic rebellion, raw freedom, and Black identity in modern culture.

𝐓.𝐎.𝐏 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐈𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐂 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐒 Many people might not know that T.O.P’s appearance in the "Loser" MV, including his unique hairstyle at the time, was directly inspired by his idol, Jean-Michel Basquiat. The scene where T.O.P wanders in anguish through a dark, damp alley wearing luxury pajamas draws heavily from the cinematic aesthetic of the biographical film about the life and career of the street-art genius. Basquiat (1996): A biographical drama directed by Basquiat's close friend, Julian Schnabel. The film chronicles his meteoric rise from a New York street artist to a global contemporary art icon. Basquiat is a name all too familiar to T.O.P’s fans. "A 21st-century cultural citizen of South Korea; with a mic in hand, I’m a masterful Basquiat." This is how T.O.P famously referenced him in "Doom Dada." In real life, Basquiat shared a deep artistic bond and collaborated closely with Andy Warhol, another endless source of inspiration for T.O.P. The relationship between Andy Warhol (the Master of Pop Art) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (the Neo-Expressionist Prodigy) remains one of the most iconic, yet complex chapters of 1980s contemporary art. 👉 Fascinating Detail: In the 1996 biographical film Basquiat, the legendary David Bowie played the role of Andy Warhol. David Bowie himself was one of the quintessential faces that defined the Studio 54 era. Both Warhol and Bowie served as major creative anchors for the title track of T.O.P's debut solo studio album, Another Dimension. 🩵 What more can we say? We started out supporting a musical artist, but through him, our knowledge of high-end cinema, fine art, and art history is constantly being enriched. 🩵 Listening to his music and understanding his mind goes far beyond mere entertainment. We are passively absorbing culture, which sparks a genuine desire to actively explore a realm of fine arts that often feels distant from mainstream daily life. It is no exaggeration when people say: T.O.P himself is a walking piece of art. 🫶🏻🫶🏻 #TTTOP #CHOISEUNGHYUN #탑 #최승현 #AnotherDimension

ANDY WARHOL Born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh and passing away on February 22, 1987, in New York City at the age of 58, Andy Warhol is the quintessential face of the Pop Art movement. He famously revolutionized the art world by transforming mass-market imagery, such as Campbell's soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, and Hollywood celebrities, into high art. Warhol’s most celebrated masterpieces include Campbell's Soup Cans and the Marilyn Diptych. Beyond painting, Warhol was a visionary filmmaker, producer, and a defining cultural icon of New York from the 1960s through the 1980s. His legendary art studio, “The Factory,” became the ultimate gathering hub for the era's avant-garde artists, musicians, and socialites, leaving a profound, permanent imprint on contemporary art, fashion, and modern celebrity culture.

Born in 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Oklahoma, Ed Ruscha is one of the most influential figures of the American Pop Art movement. He is renowned for incorporating typography, billboards, gas stations, highways, and American popular culture into his paintings. After moving to Los Angeles in the late 1950s to study at the Chouinard Art Institute, Ruscha quickly forged his own signature style: minimalist, cool, cinematic, yet profoundly haunting. Rather than chasing the glamour of New York, he chose Los Angeles as his “artistic universe,” transforming the everyday imagery of the American West into historical visual icons. Ruscha’s works often juxtapose bold typography with flat planes of color, creating an aesthetic that feels simultaneously like a commercial advertisement and surrealist poetry. He also helped reshape contemporary art through his pioneering artist books, most notably Twentysix Gasoline Stations, a publication widely considered a definitive emblem of 20th-century conceptual art. Today, Ed Ruscha is revered as a living legend of contemporary American art, with his masterpieces featured in the world's premier institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Tate Modern.

𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐃 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐀 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐅𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐓.𝐎.𝐏? Everyone knows that T.O.P managed to recruit the master Ed Ruscha to design his debut studio album cover. That is absolutely insane! For younger fans or those who aren't heavily invested in the art and music of the last century, perhaps not many know exactly who Ed Ruscha is. But long before this...he had already worked with Paul McCartney, The Beatles, and even the legendary rapper 2Pac (2Pac, or Tupac, is one of the biggest musical inspirations that shaped T.O.P's style and artistic mindset. He has shared his profound admiration for his idol 2Pac multiple times on social media.) But the truly mind-blowing part is the typography. Ruscha allowed T.O.P to use his famous signature font, “Boy Scout Utility Modern,” for everything: the logo, wine labels, the website… absolutely everything. Designing an album cover is considered a one-off collaboration, but permitting someone to use your signature font as the identity/branding for their entire company is a completely different story. That is permanent. Ruscha has almost never done this for anyone else. And for T.O.P to be able to trademark it, there must have been official, explicit permission granted by Ruscha himself. It feels as though Ruscha chose T.O.P to carry on and propagate his artistic language, and that operates on a whole different level. (Based on the post by @.msmls27) #TTTOP #CHOISEUNGHYUN #탑 #최승현 #AnotherDimension

Recently, Ruscha collaborated with Jonathan Anderson, the creative director of Loewe, to create an Americana-infused capsule collection of shirts, incorporating elements from his existing artworks, for the Loewe Cruise 2027 show, which debuted last week at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
