“Drishti” is the world’s first OptoSAR satellite. Developed by the Indian startup, this 190-kg satellite combines optical sensors (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) to deliver high-resolution, all-weather, day-and-night imaging. It enables comprehensive data for defence, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Bringing together perspectives from industry and scientific institutions, Dr. Kumaresan T., Vice President & Head, Hindalco Innovation Center, and Dr. Shivakumar Angadi, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMMT, shared insights on advancing the recovery of critical minerals through innovative and scalable solutions. Dr. Kumaresan highlighted industry-led advancements in extracting critical minerals from smelter slags and industrial residues, emphasizing process innovation and sustainable recovery practices that enhance resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Dr. Angadi spoke about scalable technologies for recovering critical minerals, including platinum group elements, from low-grade ores and overburden, underscoring the importance of translating laboratory innovations into practical, large-scale applications. The session reflected the importance of strong industry–institutional collaboration in building a resilient and future-ready ecosystem for critical mineral recovery.
