What does it mean for women to not just exist online, but to shape the digital world itself?
At @CEQUIN2009 - Centre for Equity & Inclusion’s International Women’s Day webinar, “Reclaiming the Future: Women, AI & Digital Rights,” Jyoti Vadehra from Centre for Social Research India was among the speakers driving this important conversation forward.
Because the reality is clear. Technology is not neutral. The same inequalities we see offline are showing up in algorithms, platforms, and digital spaces. From bias in AI systems to the growing risks of online harm, the digital world is reflecting the structures we live within.
But the conversation didn’t stop at risks.
It pushed toward something more important. Power.
Who builds technology? Who designs systems? Who decides what is safe, fair, and visible? And where are women in these decisions?
The discussion called for moving beyond protection and toward participation. Toward a future where women and young people are not just navigating digital spaces, but leading, creating, and redefining them.
Because a truly inclusive digital future will not happen by default. It has to be built, intentionally, collectively, and with gender justice at its core.
