Honoured to share a momentous milestone in Sri Lanka-India relations. Pleased to announce that during my State visit to India with President @RW_UNP, PM @narendramodi confirmed 750 million INR (LKR 3 billion) in grant assistance for development in plantation communities in commemoration of the 200 years since the arrival of Indian Origin Tamils to Sri Lanka. This support will drive transformative change, empowering our people with education, skills, and employment opportunities. Heartfelt thanks to India and Prime Minister Modi for this unwavering commitment to our progress! 🙏🏼🇱🇰 #SriLanka #India #Development #Partnership #Gratitude #Empowerment #Progress #CommunityDevelopment

I am confident Sri Lanka will keep working to fulfil aspirations of the Tamil community. This year we mark 75 years of India-Sri Lanka bilateral relations and 200 years since the Indian origin Tamil community arrived in Sri Lanka. During the joint press meet with President @RW_UNP, announced various projects worth Rs. 75 crores for the Indian origin Tamils in Sri Lanka. India will keep contributing to the development works in the Northern and Eastern regions of Sri Lanka. To boost commercial and people-to-people linkages, passenger ferry services will start between Nagapattinam and Kankesanthurai.
