Daily reminder: Nixon wanted to be the American Messmer, constructing a fleet of 1,000 nuclear plants, making American a clean country from then all the way through to today. If he had his way, we would have defeated climate change AND electricity bills.

OTD in Jets History Apr 2, 1989 - the final game of a disastrous season during which GM John Ferguson and head coach Dan Maloney were fired. Game 80 was a 3-2 win over the North Stars highlighted by a crushing hit by Bryan Marchment and first and only NHL goal by Tony Joseph

@nhlburnerboi Overlaying Oilers roster logic with Chevy logic is nightmare fuel. Thank goodness both orgs had an incredible drafting window some time ago.

#nhljets the toews and nyquist additions were obviously bad, But lets check in on the 36 year old center the jets offered a big long term contract too last off season. Henrique scores his 3rd of the year. Could always be worse

Speaking exclusively post-game in Dallas with @WiebesWorld -- @WinnipegNews is only media outlet on the road -- #NHLJets HC Scott Arniel chided a "lack of compete" from part of his team, saying "we were missing 9 or 10 guys." No names dropped. But that's pretty damning.

@Kevin_Salmon12 @ScottBilleck Could be running: 44, 54, Dillon on LHD; Kovy, 57, 2 on RHD. Schmidt/Stanley/random guy on 7D. Quite cheap, reasonable skill/physical balance.

@ScottBilleck I was pro management up until we let guys like Dillon/Kovacevic/Chisholm walk for nothing to keep Stanley around. Imagine the defence if we even just kept Dillon. Heck we had, have the cap space. Sure we’ve made some steal of trades but left a lot too

The fact that the Jets have even been in this race is remarkable. Management failed them last summer and still their best players, and some of the support cast, has dragged them into this position. It’s admirable. And makes you wonder what could have been with better signings.

@HLLivingLoco Good discussion in this thread, both are useful bottom 6 guys - maybe overpaid, but affordable given our cap situation. Exposed due to overuse and under-complemented with skill. AKA - Textbook Chevy.

One thing I do want to pump the brakes a bit on is the Nino hate. He's a legitimately good player. Vlad in a fourth line role can also be really effective. They should have been in to supplement and support additions of youth. Newer additions are where I'd raise eyebrows.
jetsburner@nhlburnerboi

The #nhljets have undoubtedly been a good team since the break, and the games are more entertaining what changed? 67 5 62 7 gone, 4 dinosaurs who cant skate but have nhl reputation, Replaced with youth.

The #MBMoose are collecting college captains. They've now landed three in the past week, all through next season: F Lucas Wahlin (University of St. Thomas) - 2 way deal with #NHLJets F Davis Burnside (Ohio State) - AHL deal D Lukas Gustafsson (Boston College) - AHL deal

@andrew_leach @cselley I propose a deal with Japan - Canada to build oil/LNG pipelines/export facilities to meet their long term needs, Japan takes responsibility to build and operate Canada’s ‘high speed’ rail lines with no obligation use domestic firms who can’t earn their place.

@puckmarks His ability to carry a line tricked Jets mgmt into thinking they were closer than they really were to being elite. His impact on the Jets PP the only year they allowed him on PP1 highlighted his underutilization.

@D_L1985 @nhlburnerboi I see similarities in my experience taking customers Jets games to what I experienced in the pre-Wade Miller Bomber experience at the new stadium. Wade removed the fun police and it quickly became a treat for customers.

In a “must win” game with playoff ambitions, the Winnipeg Jets barely show up against the Lowly Blackhawks 1-0 through 1. Could’ve very easily been at least 3-0 if it weren’t for Connor Hellebuyck

Career NHL shootout stats: Perfetti: 100.0% (small sample: 1-for-1) Toews: 46.8% Nyquist: 37.9% Scheifele: 34.3% Connor: 32.0% Vilardi: 27.8%

Just spitballing a list of great #NHLJets handles, without checking their shootout records: 81 13 91 55 (historically) 19 (historically) 93 (maybe?) I could see 14 being good during his better years What's your ideal shootout lineup?

@mikemcintyrewpg This feels like the right usage for Demelo. I’d like to see them run 44 + 57 for the rest of the season. They need to know if he can fill that role or if they need to prioritize finding 1RHD this off-season.

CHART OF THE DAY: Despite sanctions, ahead of the war, Iran's total oil production had hit a 46-year high. Although most of the attention is on crude, Iran has focused in expanding its output of condensates and natural gas liquids — a key export to Asian petrochemical industry.
