A4- Valuable lesson: Not all students think alike & that's ok. As a teacher I should be able to facilitate & foster their creative thoughts even in math. It's not always right or wrong/ black & white when learning. Let them talk more! #BecomingMath

A3-So many ideas to explore in chp. 12-Interesting fact about true random groupings and the growth correlated. The idea that quick images, number talks, math disputes all encourage students to think rationally and see a range of possibilities. #BecomingMath

A2-The idea of how strong proof can be for students in math. How you can teach students to provide proof by having them explore the "why" in all aspects of math. Visual representations would help students provide proof and express their thoughts.#BecomingMath

@TracyZager Yes! Thank you for writing what I have been thinking for months! “Why am I having them do so many pg’s in a math book so parents can see we are working?” I felt a weight lifted when I saw this in your book and I’m changing how we do math in my class! 🙌

@TracyZager I would correlate “going over” more so with direct instruction done by a teacher speaking to, not with students to explain a problem and “facilitating a discussion” I feel is listening to students explanation and reasoning.

Yes! For months my thought “why am I making them complete so many pg’s in a math book just so parents see we are working?” I’m changing my math lesson to allow S to justify, persuade, connect, and articulate! It may not be in paper form but, ok! #becomingmath

A1-I had the opportunity to see the power of notice and wonder in a math lesson. N&W allows students to prolong thinking and make sense of the mathematical situation. N&W also provides potential for rich conversation. #BecomingMath
