🎉 Congratulations to iCCaRE MPIs, Dr. Che Ngufor and Dr. Folakemi Odedina! 🎉 We are proud to celebrate Dr. Che Ngufor, PhD and Dr. Folakemi Odedina, PhD,  both iCCaRE MPIs, on their selection for the Mayo Clinic Center for Digital Health’s Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Enablement Award, in partnership with the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion. Their iCCaRE project “Deploying ViRA: Building Mayo Clinic’s First Cloud-Streamed XR Infrastructure for Equitable Cancer Care and Clinical Innovation” is one of five projects funded through this highly competitive program, made possible by the generous support of Dalio Philanthropies. Each selected project will receive $100,000 in 2026 to advance its work. This award supports projects that thoughtfully integrate AI and machine learning into clinical practice to reduce bias, strengthen trust, and expand equitable solutions for patients and staff. ViRA (Virtual Reality Assistant) exemplifies this mission by using AI and immersive virtual reality to deliver personalized, culturally tailored psychosocial cancer support, particularly for communities disproportionately affected by prostate cancer. By matching patients’ emotional and social needs with survivor stories, counseling, and community resources delivered via cloud-streamed XR, web-based platforms, and community kiosks the team aims to improve patient understanding, reduce distress, and create ascalable, fair, and inclusive model for AI-enabled cancer care at Mayo Clinic and beyond. 👏 Congratulations to Drs. Ngufor and Odedina and the entire project team on this impactful achievement!
