Long read. But please read through. This took quite a while to write and edit. Don’t forget to share. - Let’s clear this up, because some of you are way off. 51st State has NOTHING to do with Trump. He’s not my idol, not my saviour. I agree with some of his policies and disagree with others. That’s not why people are talking about this. It’s about the system. The US is built on a Constitution that actually protects rights. - actual protections. Their entire system is to stay within those limits. Every police officer, every politician, every military member, every public servant swears an oath to that. To the constitution, to uphold rights and freedoms and to serve and protect the citizens. In Canada? They don’t swear an oath to you. They swear an oath to the King. - they don’t swear to serve and protect rights and freedoms of citizens. That should tell you where the priority is. Now look at how things are enforced. In the United States power is local. Sheriffs are elected by their communities. And govern according to their constituents. In Canada, we’ve got the RCMP “yes-men” who take orders from Ottawa and carry them out without remorse like mindless government drones. They don’t answer to you, they answer to Ottawa. - they don’t serve you as a citizen: they serve the government. That’s the difference. Property rights? In the US if you own something; it’s yours. In Canada, you own it until the government decides you don’t. Freeze it, seize it, regulate it, whatever they justify in the moment. - and if you don’t believe me look it up. We do not have property rights. That’s not ownership. That’s permission. Is the US perfect? No. But it’s a constitutional republic with real limits on government power - the people hold the power. Canada is getting more centralized every year. More control from Ottawa, less say from regular people, and more expectation that you just go along with it. In the US individuals are sovereign. You’re responsible for your own safety, your own success, your own life. In Canada, the government keeps inserting itself into everything, what you can say, what you can see, how you’re allowed to live. Where you view your news, and the opinion you’re allowed to have. So no, this isn’t about Trump. It’s about freedom vs control. And some of us are done pretending those are the same thing.
