Community engagement plays such a large role in developing our students. Our #sdg14 unit will create a similar project- a school beach clean up to collect plastics to turn into a mural display in the school grounds. The students, staff & members of the public can all admire this!

@BeazleyEliza I didn’t know we had signs at Merewether, that is so good to hear. Wouldn’t it be great if our students created some new Take 3 for the sea signs for our other local beaches.

Take3 for the sea is an inspiring initiative to protect our oceans that students can explore & learn from through the #sdg14 unit when learning about #lifebelowwater. Their youtube channel has educational clips about the movement, & we even have signs in our Merewether community!

Goodman and Hook (2016) highlight the educational benefits of creating connections and relationships between students, families and the wider community. My project for #educ4750 will see our school art mural displayed in a local art gallery. #UoNTeach #sdg14

A relevant news clip about a community group called 'Sea Shepherd' who organise beach clean ups, & at times pick up 250kg of debris a day!! Thats a crazy amount of rubbish washing up onto our beaches.. students reflect on #communityinvolvement for #SDG14 #educ4750 #UoNTeach Wow!

‘My Little Plastic Footprint’ is an interactive app that our students can use to calculate their plastic footprint. Wouldn’t it be great to see our footprint at the beginning and on competition of our integrated unit of work on #sdg14. #educ4750 #UoNTeach
