The #CAbudget showcases our collective values, and the governor’s proposal does not meet the moment. At a time of rising affordability pressures and brutal federal attacks, California should be doing more to protect families and combat affordability challenges.

Did you know? California businesses pay unemployment insurance (UI) taxes on the smallest share of wages in the nation. Because the state’s taxable wage base is low and fixed, it raises far too little to adequately fund UI benefits during economic downturns. #CABudget

While the governor’s budget proposal maintains and protects many current state programs, it leaves millions of Californians worse off as a result of federal cuts.

Revenue estimates are not crystal balls. Forecasts differ because they rely on different assumptions, especially amid shifts in federal policy and economic conditions. California’s fiscal picture could change substantially by June, when the 26–27 budget is finalized. #CABudget
