A number of bills identified by the CalChamber as Cost Drivers that would have made the state less affordable for businesses and consumers failed to move out of the Assembly Appropriations Committee last week. These bills would have hampered the ability of businesses to use technology in employment or health care settings, expanded the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), exposed employers to costly litigation, hurt supply chains, and increased food costs. #AffordabilityAgenda #CostDrivers #CEQA #Agriculture #Labor #Employment #ProductLiability #Taxation calchamberalert.com/2026/05/22/cos…

Did you know that state mandates and public purpose programs add nearly 37% to the average residential customer’s electric bill. That’s over $820 per year. #RateRealities. bit.ly/3R8GjcK

#CALeg continues to propose costly proposals such as government-controlled operation of the electric system and restricting investments in reliability. Misguided legislation increases electricity rates and threatens investments in reliability, wildfire prevention and clean energy.

Twenty-five professors at California universities are urging legislators to reject a sweeping change to the state’s antitrust law, warning that pending legislation is a threat to consumers, ordinary business practices, and the overall economy. “This bill would deter expansion, reduce job creation, and ultimately harm the very competitive dynamism the bill seeks to promote,” the professors said in the letter. #AntiTrust #AntiTrustLaw #AB1776 #AffordabilityAgenda #CostDriver advocacy.calchamber.com/2026/05/11/aca…

In addition to the solar cost shift, bill discounts for low-income customers, paying for energy efficiency programs, subsidies to upgrade school air conditioning and plumbing, wildfire prevention efforts, to name a few—all add hundreds to customer electric bills. #RateRealities

Just two months before the United States, #Canada and #Mexico are to complete the joint review of their trade agreement, the California Chamber of Commerce has written to encourage the California congressional delegation to support the original July 1 review deadline of the pact. The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (#USMCA), which took effect on July 1, 2020, has created a stable and certain commercial environment that reinforces strong economic ties and enhances North American competitiveness in the global market — thereby ensuring North American economic security, which leads to geopolitical security. #NorthAmericaTrade #TradeAgreement #InternationalTrade calchamberalert.com/2026/05/01/cal…

📃A recent analysis from @californiapuc found that customers without rooftop solar pay $8.5B every year on their electric bills—subsidizing customers who have rooftop solar systems. This adds an extra $440 annually to every non-solar customer’s bill—primarily low-income families, seniors and renters. Learn More: bit.ly/4u9JoY2

The campaign in support of the YES on the Building an Affordable California Act (@AffordableCAAct) has begun submitting nearly 1 million signatures to county elections officials across California—more than enough to qualify the measure for the November 2026 statewide ballot. “California voters are frustrated that it takes too long and costs too much to build the basic projects we need,” said CalChamber President and CEO @CalChamberJen. “From #housing and #energy to water and wildfire prevention, our outdated way of doing things is driving up costs and holding California back. The Building an Affordable California Act will cut red tape, reduce delays, and help deliver the projects Californians need—faster and more affordably—while maintaining strong environmental protections.” The campaign has a broad and growing coalition of some 100 supporters — including affordable housing advocates, civil rights organizations, clean energy leaders, water providers, agricultural groups, and business organizations. #BuildingAnAffordableCalifornia #AffordableCA #CEQA #Infrastructure #NovemberBallot calchamberalert.com/2026/05/01/aff…
