One of the most challenging things that comes up in grad school: Saying no. But it's okay to give yourself boundaries. There will always be work to be done. #CalDiversityForum

Community and support is important. Mental health is important. But "you can not self-care yourself outside of white supremacy." Strength can come from NOT enduring and fighting against a system, endurance should not come at the expense of ourselves. #CalDiversityForum

In academia, we're trained to look at that external validation but this is about YOUR development. Take good care of yourself, otherwise you will buckle. #CalDiversityForum

#CalDiversityForum: In grad school, put yourself first. Take your breaks. Keep doing what you love and keep yourself occupied outside of academia. Talk about things that doesn't have to do with research.

#CalDiversityForum Keys to Success tip: You'll be a member of the academic community you're applying to. Get to know the research, faculty, and current grads before you apply. See if this is a community that makes sense for you b/c relationships extend beyond your grad program.

On disclosing undocumented status in the application: You're not required to share your status but you're not told not to, either. Another reason why it's important to identify support and allies during your application process! #CalDiversityForum

Another tip for AB540/Undocumented students: Diversity & Inclusion Offices can be very helpful to find advocates and allies on campuses. Look for graduate student groups. #CalDiversityForum is a resource for you, too!
