In the early 1900s, South Asian immigrants made a home for themselves in California's Central Valley—a legacy that continues to live on more than a century later. This lesser-known history is a little look at how immigration continues to guide our communities, and how our stories—no matter our background—often have many similarities.

"Community schools create the conditions for that trust by shifting mindsets to embrace partnership with community and position students, families, educators and community as members of the same team. In Anaheim, the Orange County Congregation Community Organization (OCCCO) has helped make that shift real." Read more at calonews.com/opinion/opinio…

What happens when vulnerable Californians lose access to food? The short answer? Nothing good. While our state has invested in programs to aid our communities, the most vulnerable are still constantly at risk of losing their access to the resources they rely on. Communities that have access to affordable, healthy food—are healthier.

An estimated 72,000 immigrants in California are set to lose CalFresh benefits. H.R.1 changes the eligibility for certain immigrants, such as people with refugee status, victims of trafficking, and immigrants from Iraq/Afghanistan who have special immigrant visas. Taking away these resources has huge negative impacts on our communities. Food justice is justice for everyone.

We're in an era of constant news and terror—and it has an immense impact on our health. Between immigration raids, wars abroad, and increasing rent/food/gas prices, the stress can seem unmanageable. But community can help.

Chag Pesach Sameach! Now more than ever, Passover symbolizes the struggle for freedom. Today we honor the Jewish radical tradition of anti-oppression and liberation work as we gather with loved ones for the Passover Seder. ✊

Farmworkers are often overlooked, pushed to the margins of a society that prizes office work over hard labor. 🌾 Even in advocacy, farmworkers are often only seen for their labor—not for their personhood. 🌾 Farmworkers are negatively impacted by inclement weather conditions, putting their health and wellness at risk. 🌾 Farmworkers have less access to healthcare resources. 🌾 During periods of immigration enforcement, working isn't an option—making it hard to pay rent or get food on the table. Thank a farmworker.

#TransDayofVisibility is a time to honor not only ourselves, but our ancestors who paved the way for our existence. "This piece features Good Road/Good Road Woman, a Cheyenne he'emaneh doctor and spiritual leader. I chose a historical figure to feature for Trans Day of Visibility to honor our transcestors and the identities that have been present since time immemorial. Trans people have always been here and will always be here. The colors represented within the image are intentionally chosen to reflect the trans flag and the butterfly is there as a symbol of the beauty of transformation." 🎨 by commissioned artist, @shesanargonaut

Throughout history, women have left their mark on movements throughout the country. Whether it be the right to vote or the right to marry—women have always been at the forefront of the movement.

Immigration raids have had immense impacts on farmworkers, who were already pushed to the margins of society as a result of their work and legal status. 👨‍🌾 Many farmworkers missed out on critical pay because they were too afraid to go to work. 👨‍🌾 Many farmworkers, who already face health disparities and barriers to access, stopped going to their appointments out of fear of being deported. 👨‍🌾 Increased fear = increased mental health problems, increased physical health problems, and increased stress. #FarmworkerAwarenessWeek is a time to acknowledge the unique problems our farmworkers face. They feed us, we should look out for them.

Women are just as competent and more educated, but still get paid less than their male counterparts. It's 2026—it's time to close the wage gap. #WomensEqualPayDay

Women weren't just participants in the labor movement—they were leaders of it. What we now know to be "International Women's Day," which would later be developed into "International Women's Month," started as a celebration of women in the labor movement. Garment workers remained on the frontlines of the movement, striving for better pay and better conditions. 🎨 Created by commissioned artist for #WomensHistoryMonth, @nataliepbui!
